i have a note 2. i rooted it using the great app called "framaroot" (found on this website).
this worked at first, but once i Supersu updated, it started reciving errors (related to unrooted phones). so i checked out supersu an it pop up: There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!
i tried reinstall it in recovery (both binary and supersu) but it always said: e:failed to verify whole-file signature.
i also tried to reset the phone, but that didn't work too.
at last i tried to update the software (over wireless), but my phone promted that it was modified.

all i want is to reroot my phone, using framaroot, without having to use odin or anything similar. (painful experince: broke s2 but refixed it partialy)

Hey, first of all amazing little app.
Can I send my phone for warranty after using the unroot method in this app.
Hi,

If you don't have flashed partition with odin or dd, it may be possible than flash counter has not been incremented, not sure.
Samsung run an application named SysScope on these phones which check for :

  • root process against a whitelist of process, if you run a shell or an application as root your status is shown as modified
  • adb check in prop files for ro.secure, if ro.secure=0 your status is shown as modified
  • boot and recovery partitions, if its not samsung official image your status is shown as modified, bootloader check partition too and increment flash counter even if you don't have flashed partition with odin (ie : dd an image on /dev/block/mmcblk0p*)
  • scan for su binary based on checksum i think, if it detect a su binary in its database your status is shown as modified (it seems not detect last su binaries, thats why the status is normal for some users which they stay with stock ROM)
  • scan kernel image based on checksum or signature, if its not an official kernel your status is shown as modified and flash counter incremented by bootloader

Bootloader and SysScope "communicate" with param partition by setting an encrypted hash at the end of partition and with cordon kernel parameter set in /proc/cmdline by bootloader
For details about the hash values follow ralekdev's posts in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769411&page=7

Guys it's not as simple to cheat SysScope to keep normal status, normal status make sense only for OTA update, even by cheating SysScope and bootloader to keep normal status next OTA update will failed if you have flashed recovery or boot partition or modify some system files (some applications which required root modify system files). In conclusion, tricking SysScope has no real interest except "look ! my phone has been raped but it will never know", yeah but Samsung know !.

Its only my point of view, when you root your phone you should know what you did and why you did it, you have to accept the deal with the pros and cons.

In my OP, I mentionned : Success with this application void warranty on your device. As we don't know what they did on their phone after root, its preferable to say void warranty even its not the case for all users.

For those who have received last update from Samsung and now can't root their phone with framaroot, there is CF-Root. For those who don't want use CF-Root, I can only say to be patient, I wait vendors release to update framaroot exploit.
In next update framaroot will include exploits for phones from : Sony, Google, HTC, Samsung, LG, Motorola ;)

Thanks alephzain for your thorough and clear explanation.
Now I can understand better the role and workings of syscope in detecting a rooted status.

In my experience (GNote 10.1 N8000 with stock ROM JB 4.1.2 (N8000XXCLL3-N8000ITVCLL1) everything went smooth and fine with Framaroot.
I applied it on 15th feb 2013, choosing SuperSu.
After applying it I saw that the status had stayed "Official".
Anyway, a few days later, I noticed that the status had changed to "Custom", but it came back to "Official" after every reboot and stayed so for several hours before returning to "Custom".
In the meantime I received a couple of updates of SuperSu and the su binary.
After that (it must be about a week ago or more) till now the status has always stayed "Official".

That's to say that your explanation (point 4) perfectly fits with my experience. Above all considering that I rooted just to browse the system files and to fix the Samsung "clipboard crash" bug and didn't change the stock ROM nor the kernel nor made a heavy use of the su rights.

[I also agree that, despite mine noobish, apprehensive, conservative and overcautious prejudices, having the status "Official" instead of "Custom" is not very important when one decide to go the root way... ;) ]

Galaxy S2 - Framaroot doesn't work

Galaxy S2 I9100, unlocked.
After Updating to Android 4.1.2 I tried to root in the "old style" - without Odin.
Then I saw the Frameroot-App and because this is a good possibility to change between "Root" and "Unroort" I unrooted my Handy, installed Frameroot and started it. But with "SAM" and "FRODO" still the message
"Failed ... Try another exploit if available"

Does anybody have an Idea - I am a layman with that stuff...

Thanks and kind regards.

Samsung Galaxy Note II T-889

This APK also works for the Note II T-889 using Frodo. So you can put that one on the list as well. Thanks a bunch
