Hello, please follow this guide here and you should successfully root ,this is confirmed working

https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/how-to/guide-root-s9-oem-fix-t3763974
good luck
Thank you but I want to avoid this point from the guide:
12.From TWRP, Select WIPE menu - Then FORMAT DATA - You need to type 'yes' to perform wipe. WARNING : This will erase all data including Int SD storage from device

I want to keep my apps and settings. Is there any chance to do it WITHOUT wiping or if I wipe - to restore all apps and settings (backed up by Titanium Backup and TWRP)?

to my knowledge its not possible to root without wiping data due to the device encryption ,
you'll be able to restore everything after rooting, using TWRP or titanum backup if you have it backed up previously ( move the backups to pc before wiping data, and afterwards move them back to device )

i may be wrong,

please ask someone with more knowledge and experience than me in that other thread i linked

try asking dr.ketan there im pretty sure he'll respond ( make sure to thoroughly explain )
good luck

You're right. When you install the official firmware from Samsung it encrypts the /data partition (where the data of your apps are stored). Only way to keep your files when rooting (if the oem unlock doesn't erase the device) is to bruteforce the encryption or find a vulnerability in knox.

Thank you but how to do this in practice?

How about flashing N965F_root_OEM_issue_devices.zip or no-verity-opt-encrypt-samsung-1.0 with TWRP without wiping/formatting before that?

Grab some GTX2080TI or RTX TITAN and let them start hashing to find the key but it will take long long time like more than 1000 years.
For the vulnerability : today nobody found vulnerability in the sha2 family.

How about flashing N965F_root_OEM_issue_devices.zip or no-verity-opt-encrypt-samsung-1.0 with TWRP without wiping/formatting before that?
These files are useless when partitions are encrypted you have to format the partition to use this kind of files.

So all paths to rooting include wipe/format? :(

If this is true, then this is practically insane - because every time I update Samsung's firmware (i.e. flash latest stock rom), I will lose root and will have to format and start from scratch again (and tune up my phone for another one month or something). Any other way out of this?

If you want to flash a samsung stock firmware you can't bypass it but if you want something better i recommend you the Soldier9312 rom. This rom (based on stock debloated) is updated every month and to update you just have to flash in TWRP.

Thank you! Would you please advise whether I will be able to *doesn't matter how* keep apps/setting if I flash this rom? My idea is to flash this rom with Odin and gain root - is this possible? Unfortunately I see that wipe/format is a required step if I have stock rom...

Update: learned this the hard way. I had backed up 3 items with TWRP - Boot, System and Data. When I restored all 3 of them (after installing the latest firmware with the new bootloader) it all totally messed up. Tried restoring everything with Titanium Backup and had partial success - many apps and settings were restored but many system settings were not. So tried restoring only Data with TWRP and the magic happened - my phone returned to the state exactly as it was before the new firmware! (so now I have the old firmware for sure and probably the new bootloader) And my questions here is - since Data in TWRP restores everything (incl. system apps and settings) - then what does System restore?!

Didn't work for me on G960-F

I got an error message before the boot process saying that we can only install official ROMs on the device.

i'm hitting a bummer with s9+ exynos edition g965f/ds
i've done various OTA updates to the latest firmware and patches prior
i did that OEM unlock, subsequently it did a factory reset and i couldn't find the OEM unlock again in dev options
then i get odin 3.13.1
https://odindownload.com/
and trwp (the tar file)
https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxys9plus.html
did that download to install TWRP
the download went on for a while and ended with
<ID:0/003> RQT_CLOSE !!
<ID:0/003>
<ID:0/003> Complete(Write) operation failed.
afternote: found that the RMM state is "Prenormal" and
twrp recovery didn't get installed

unfortunately this trick
https://www.xda-developers.com/fix-...y-s9-samsung-galaxy-s8-samsung-galaxy-note-8/
didn't get me back the oem unlock, even tried a factory reset, i'd guess i'd need to wait a week

found some relevant clues in this post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77221271&postcount=7
it seemed these steps are relevant and i'd need to wait a week before attempting a download

Hello there :)

I have successfully rooted my Galaxy S9+ (SM-G965F) and my Version is G965FXXS2BRK2 (Android 8.0.0)

As I can see here, there is a newer version G965FXXU2CSA2 which should already be Android 9.

So my question is, how to update?
If I flash the total new firmware, I will loose all my apps and settings I think :(
Is there a way, just to flash the update?

I have tried to read through this thread, but I can not find any help...
I know I have lost OTA updates... But is the a short "How to update rooted Galaxy S9+" ?!
I don't want to install all apps and settings every time I update my phone...

Thank u in advance !!

Hello.

Are there any help? :(

How can I update my S9+ without loosing data, settings and apps?!
Can I just use Odin and flash new FW?
But then I will loose everything and my phone is kind of fresh install, I think...
Or is there a way not to lose my settings and apps?..

Please give me some advice guys :)

Thank u !!

Hello (again).

As nobody answers here, I kept googling and found another site (sorry, it seems to be not allowed posting other sites then xda site...).
Here the method is explained with Odi and pointed out that you will NOT lose any data.

So I followed this tutorial and updated my Galaxy S9 + with Odin to Android Pie (G965FXXU2CSA2).
Everything is very good so far. Mobile started and I was happy to see Android 9.0 booting.

My apps were still there. Only all app permissions and ringtones were gone.
But the bigger problem for me - MY ROOT IS GONE !!!

Can anyone help me, how to root the Galaxy S9 + Exynos G965F/DS with Android 9.0 ?!
In this thread, it seems that there are currently some problems with S9 in rooting Android Pie... Are there any solutions or instructions how to proceed? Or is it better to wait? Is there a difference so my S9+ (plus)?

I am aware that I have lost the KNOX security through the root.
I am also aware that I do not receive any OTA updates.
I agree that I have to do any update via Odin, as long as I do not lose all settings and apps every time.

But:
Is there a way to flash only UPDATES and not always the latest complete ROM?
Is there a way to keep the ROOT, or do I have to do that again after each update?

Maybe someone will tell me... :(
And please forgive me, if i am already annoying and not that clever in rootin as you :(

Thank you !!!

Guys, here is the absolutely easiest way of rooting your Galaxy S9/S9+:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...-development/rom-u1arc5-devbase-v5-2-t3764822

This is a custom ROM but in fact it's a 99% stock ROM with bloatware removed. You just download a ZIP file (both Android 8 and 9 are available), flash it with TWRP or Odin and you are done! All apps and files are untouched (i.e. you keep all your app, setting and files, there is no need for wipe or factory reset). You can even keep full device encryption which is a unique feature for rooted Samsung phone!

I had rooted Android 8, then flashed this ROM (Oreo), then flashed the same ROM (PIe) with encryption and everything is working flawlessly.
