how did u flash element kernel help plz i need to fix my wifi too

It's very simple. In the general tab there's a post of ElementalX kernel. In it you'll find the download link. Go to it and download the kernel file to your SD card or internal storage doesn't matter. Then just go into TWRP and wipe dalvik cache/cache and then go to install and look for the ElementalX zip, then slide to install and go through the install process. Once you reboot you'll have working wifi plus little features included with ElementalX like over clocking and setting fingerprint sensor as home button :)

To help everyone having the wifi issues I had.

Follow steps, if you want to keep your original recovery by booting twrp with
fastboot boot twrp.img

that will temporarily boot the twrp and let you root your phone and other stuff without it being permanent.

use the boot.img for 1641/43 if you have 1644 like I did. Then flash the elemetal x kernal. After that wifi will work and everything seems fine for me so far. will update if I find anything else.

Why is used "Modifieded Sysytem-less boot.img ( XT1642 )"? I 've skipped that step and working properly.

Sorry for my Google Translate english :p

I think I may have done something wrong and want to confirm some steps before proceeding. Just got my G4 Plus today. I have unlocked the bootloader, this much is confirmed. I have tried to flash TWRP but can't seem to confirm that. If I run the command sudo adb reboot recovery, I get a black screen with an android, red triangle, and NO COMMAND below it.

At this point the phone still works, so I need to see what I have done wrong.

Here's the output from my attempted flash of TWRP:

Code:
myk@e45-b4200 Motorola]$ sudo mfastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-athene.img
target max-sparse-size: 256MB
sending 'recovery' (12496 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.396s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) Image not signed or corrupt

OKAY [ 0.119s]
finished. total time: 0.515s

now what?

Thanks

I do want to say this... Apparently I skipped some steps... I watched this video on YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itpLsWAFx8w

I did not enter any commands into TWRP and I did not flash the custom boot img. I only did the bootloader unlock, then flashed TWRP, then flashed SuperSU from the OP.

WiFi is working ,as is root. So I definitely missed some steps, but it is still working. Have I created a monster?

Not sure how I missed those steps, but it seems to work. All I even wanted to do this for is AdAway

opera includes native ad-blocking and Firefox supports many add-ons, including multiple ad-blockers. of course that only affects web browsing, but it's better than nothing. still debating whether I want to root. I've gotten used to being unrooted after a year of lg g4.

Opera/Firefox ad blocking is only for browsers though. Adaway blocks ads system-wide.

(2) Questions :
1) People keep saying I gotta use one of the modified boot.img(s) but I can't find one for XT1644 so I'm using EX. Is there a modified stock kernel for the XT1644?

2) I know I can't downgrade SuperSU, at least I think I can't easily. I think if I reroot with the new SuperSU in post one and find this modified kernel everyone is telling me to use, I won't have the stupid issues like loosing root when I TWRP restore (then I can get back to beta testing CM13)....Is there a simple way to reroot with the new SuperSU in post #1?

Thank you very much for the detailed tutorial. I'll just list a few things that I encountered during the process, if it helps anyone.

    1) during TWRP flash, the 'flash recovery' command did not do anything the first time (completed, but recovery did not change). I tried the same command again, and this time it worked.

    2) after flashing superSU.zip and rebooting, SuperSU did not show up. I installed it from the play store, and it worked.

3)Installed the SELinuxModChanger.apk, and tried changing to permissive. Even though SuperSU granted root access, the app failed to gain root privileges. Changed the 'force user' option in SuperSU for the app to ROOT, and it worked.

4)ES explorer couldn't gain root access no matter what I changed. ("sorry, test failed"). This happens because ES checks for 'su' files in /system/xbin, and our root method is systemless.
To fix it, I copied all files from /su/bin to /system/xbin and set permissions (using another root explorer, like fx or solid trial).

5)I had an older version of titanium backup, which couldn't gain root access. Updated to new version, and it worked. Backup and Restore works now.

It was easy finding solutions for these problems. You just need a search engine :cowboy:

You can do this without modified boot.img, if you follow the below link. This is especially true when the 1644 doesn't have one and people use wrong boot.img files for it.
All that needs to be done is to write a ".supersu" file for systemless rooting:
TWRP -> Advanced -> Terminal -> Type the follow code:
    Code:
    echo "SYSTEMLESS=true" > /data/.supersu

Doesn't work. No wifi. I have the 1643 model.

If you can modify the attached boot image, I can check.
