I just got a replacement phone through T-Mobile. I forgot what version it was on, But anyways I used lgup/ uppercut to flash 20a kdz to it and worked fine. I tried using the Easy recovery method HERE https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g5/development/root-h830-running-30a-nougat-t3524322 and couldnt get it to flash twrp or get it to work.
Is it possible to flash this rooted TOT file with lgup/uppercut over my stock 20a rom right now? Or will it cause it not to boot?

I also tried this GUIDE https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/how-to/guide-root-stock-n-using-jcadduonos-t3529093 and also no luck if anyone can help with the easy recovery that would be great, otherwise can i flash this TOT over my stock 20a rom?

No, this TOT is for a MM version, and you can't downgrade to MM from Nougat without having TWRP already installed.

Trying to LGUP this TOT won't brick your phone, but it won't go through either. It'll probably abort somewhere in the process.

Post in those threads you mentioned more info on where it fails and someone can probably help you there. Usually it's a permission or driver issue, provided you're following the directions properly.

Flashed it on Nougat, it failed at 10% and now my phone says firmware update do not unplug.
How do restore to stock?
Does it boot at all? It'll stick at that page if it aborts the process but usually nothing is written to the phone or changed.

same here

Can you possibly elaborate on this or give a direct link? I was just reading through the 20a post since I was stuck in DL mode after the 10d TOT didn't work.. I'm really just trying to get a root active, i dont really care for lineage or other ROMs at the moment. I just flashed the 20a kdz with the uppercut/1.14 so thats where I am.
yep I just used the 20a kdz and uppercut too. I have been killing myself trying to get twrp. So I thought id chime in. my bootloader's unlocked from my failed attempt to put 10a and then d but they failed at 11% and bootlooped me.I have a couple others but they are zipfiles so I cant flash them through up. I need twrp. and none of the other files worked so I did the uppercut dealwith 20a from autoprime I flashed without issue :) yay. so I went from my20i to 20a. oddly enough my fastboot doesn't register whether it is or isn't unlocked now- odd since I did it with fastboot and every time my phone reboots it says danger danger Will Robinson? so I tried to put twrp on this way it installs partway and says error failue so yeah I would love a 20a tot with root. I would happily pay for that. anyone... anyone bueller, bueller? 30+ hours of hunting and grabbing 20-30gb of useless files is enough I think?

Hey @Mo3bium, I was in the same boat. Got a G5 a couple weeks ago thinking it could be easily flashed with Lineage. Ha! Spent an entire day doing as you have done, going through all those threads and trying to make the dirtycow exploit work using recowvery. I could get the temporary root and flash recovery, but every time I'd reboot, I'd get the double boot and recovery would get flashed back to stock. I finally gave up and let it fully update to 20n and thought I might give it to one of my kids.

Today, I decided to give it another try. I downgraded to 20A using the KDZ on codefire. Then did a factory reset. Then went through the setup to get to developer options and reenable the OEM unlock. Then went to fastboot and OEM unlocked. Verified with fastboot getvar unlocked. Rebooted and went thru setup again. Turned on USB debugging and went through the dirtycow process, step by step. Before I did it on my Macbook using Parallels. This time, I used an actual PC. Not sure if that made a difference.

At the last step on the dirtycow github, right after getting temporary root, I'd flash recovery and no matter how I entered the reboot recovery command (adb, adb shell, adb shell with su) it would always overwrite on the boot. Finally, I decided to power down and not reboot. Then did the Power+VolDn sequence to get into recovery. It asks twice if you want to do a factory reset and choose yes both times. Then, I found myself in TWRP. It was a little scary at first. I wiped data using "Format Data" (not Advanced Wipe). Rebooted into recovery and came back to TWRP (whew). Then I was able to load Lineage, GAPPs, and Magisk.

Currently reinstalling apps and logging into everything. It passes Safetynet and I can log into my banking app.

Good luck.

Guys,
Can I follow the steps in original post to root my h830? Mine is running stock 20n. Or do I need to downgrade to 20a first? If so, how do I downgrade?

Please help. I desperately want to fix VoLTE to work with Reliance Jio.

If you're going to use the DirtyCow exploit, I believe you have to go back. From reading the thread, it appears that exploit was closed down. I went from 20N to 20A a few weeks ago and was able to make the exploit work, although I had to operate slightly different from the instructions as I mentioned in my previous comment.

I tried this method and now my phone is bricked. It says boot verification failed. Mismatch_SIG_Len
Uppercut won't install.
I downloaded a KDZ for this phone (it is h830) but LGUP says it's an invalid kdz. What do I do to unbrick my phone? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks

I have the same model phone as you and have gone through the same panic. It is unlikely that youve permabricked your phone. You just need to follow the instructions very VERRY carefully.
Did you download a kdz, tot, or zipped version of either? Did you give the download time to complete (it can take many hours)? Did you check the downloaded file checksum? Which mode are you using in LGUP to flash the file?

Thanks a lot for your reply!

First, I'm not sure if this will make a difference, but the phone was running 6.0.1, if I remember correctly. LG up currently shows it as h83010j

I used the TOT from the OP, which I extracted from a zip, with LG Up first, but that's what bricked my phone.

The KDZ I just tried using is h83020a 00 1107.kdz. I downloaded it from a link in another thread. The download did complete, and it's 2.01 GB.

Im not sure how to check the checksum? What should I see when I do?

The LG Up version I'm using is 1_11. I tried loading the kdz with refurbished and update, and both had the same response.

Thanks for your help
