Bricked mine like Denversmartphone did. Pulled out usb cable too late when 918 image almost done flashing (pulled out on backuping GPT). But after mistake I flash only 872's laf partition. After all flashing done phone reboot and nothing. Brick.

I'm curious as to how y'all know at exactly what point to pull the cord

Signature blah, blah, blah...
When using the patched lgup grab the h918kdz and flash the laf partition from the kdz, once you do that you will see on the computer it flashing the laf then it will try to move on to the next partition. It will say laf then it will move to system. Pull the usb right after u see the flash process move past laf

Worked great for me, i just built lineage 15.1 for H872 I'll flash it later. I did flash h870 lineage but it didn't boot.
Does anyone know if I can flash H872 twrp via the twrp (flash image to recovery in TWRP) supplied in the root method? I mean I'm going to try anyway just wondering if it's a definitely a no-go?

I'd love to see a video of the process or at least the screen at the time of this plug pull.

Been keeping track and that seems to be the bricking point in the process

Been a little bit since I've had root on a device but theoretically twrp should be able to process an img. File. But with this process it has me wondering also.

I just theorizing though. One of the big boys involved with this would have the straight answer I'd think.

How did you fix the hard brick? i didn't found any solution i also ask to tmob to give me the firehose file...but of course they didn't give me...
for the process of the cable i understand that when lgup start to flash laf you have to watch the process, after laf finish and you see the write system you have immediatly to remove the cable...but i think it's hard to understand this on the first root..btw we hope someone found a solution for hard brick lg g5-g6 and v20 because we are a lot of user and lg smile on this..because they involve people to pay and buy new motherboard and mobile..and this is bad..chapeu to samsung never buy again a lg..happens with my old g3 g5 and now also with g6..with samsung even hard brick i was always able to go back...

The 872 TWRP in the root method is actually TWRP for the 870. Are you asking if you can use flash image from TWRP while booted into the laf TWRP, yes you can.

My phone was froze at the end in step 2 "light recovery on the screen" and no answer for any button combinations. After the phone has been discharged, it is turned off. I charged phone and was able to enter the recovery. Then I went to step 3 and it ended successfully with root

Exactly what I'm asking, I want to flash a real H872 twrp to recovery partition via the laf h870 twrp installed during the root process. Right now we can't flash H872 custom roms (without modifying the zip) because twrp thinks it's a H872. Thank you for your reply.

Understood. I haven't had the time to build TWRP for the 872 yet. I should have one out in the coming days. Unless you happen to know where one exists

U can mount /system. If u still have twrp on the laf partition all u have to do is reboot twice back into twrp then go to mounts and check system, clear cache then flash the magisk zip. But one thing o truly hate about magisk is my frequencies don't stick on kernel apps so I flashed regular su and right now everything is running amazing.

Also if anyone has got a bootloop after flashing something I found out that the phone reboots when you are restoring backup. To fix this flash recovery system and boot from the backup but u have to keep tapping on the screen so it dont timeout and restore wrong.
Except that I can't mount system because it won't let me check the box unless I mount it as read only because the device or resource is busy. Magisk flashes but spits out an error that the it can't mount system.

I had tried booting from LAF TWRP into recovery TWRP but that didn't work either so I tried LAF again, then booted back into system to see if root worked and it didn't. So I booted back to LAF TWRP and tried again and still nothing.

I haven't tried again to check if recovery TWRP works but I was unable to delete the backup image in system. I imagine I would brick my phone if I were to try since download mode is now gone and stock recovery might frag TWRP and everything else.

I tried formatting it a couple more times, wiping, rebooting, pretty much everything. I can't get write access to system with TWRP.

If u can boot to twrp on laf keep resarting it, u will eventually be able to mount /system thays what happened to me

I've tried literally at least 30 or 40 times, I've been doing this for the last 45 minutes straight and it's the same exact thing over and over.

I reflashed TWRP over my recovery partition so I can continuously reboot into the recovery partition instead of powering down and going into LAF over and over.

It's not working, I thought about wiping system and restoring a backup over it but there's no roms to flash if something goes bad.

Did this take you a few hours or something? Like ball park did you reboot a hundred times or so?
