You can actually just flash it.

Thanks for the reply.
That's the download mode.
I wanted to enable download mode and was not sure which laf to flash.

Thanks for confirming that "h87220e_StockLAF.zip" or any 20x laf can be flash to get download mode (firmware update) back.

Did you had to select 'laf/download" in TWRP or just flash it?
You can just flash it.
Install-> "h87220e_StockLAF.zip"-> Swipe to flash

Hey guys. I can't boot to download mode, Everytime I tried to boot to download mode it automatically goes to TWRP. It seems like it's missing dowload mode boot. I can't reflash kdz firmware using download mode. Anyone knows how to?
EDIT : FIXED!

Hello

"If you are rooting on 20a, you will need a Micro-SD card. Copy the TWRP 3.2.3 image and the latest Magisk zip to the SD card."

Is this part also necessary on 20g? Thanks

I think the procedure applies for all variants of h872 (20a and 20g included). Anyway, it's what I did on my 20g. In my case everything seems to have worked and I'm rooted. The only issue I can think of is when I did a wipe of dalvik, cache, and data and got a couple of red lines saying something like "unable to decrypt dalvik". Then when I went to restore download mode and flashed the laf partition, besides the "reboot" button the other one said "wipe dalvik and cache". Are they still encrypted? Though like I said, Magisk seems to be working fine. Anyway, a huge thanks to everyone who made it happen.

and as soon as it changes from laf to another partition, PULL THE USB CABLE! If you let it completely flash the H918 KDZ, your phone WILL reboot, and you WILL have a brick that can't be fixed.
LMAO, this process is pretty much the pull out game in every way.

Pull out too early and the process isn't complete. Pull out too late and, well, you're f***ed ?

So really this is only for those with a strong pull out game ?

anybody here?????? rush help please.... At step 2, to the order "git pull" I always get an error message. Something like fatal error( not a github repository) or something alike. Phone boot normaly, laf seems to have worked, After that command, the only way out I found is to use Salt debug in the FWUL and hit reboot. If I don't do that I am stuck in the download mode (little rectangle). help please

I just ran into this issue today as well. This might be due to a GitHub -> GitLab migration after the Microsoft acquisition. Anyway, here's how to get around it:

In FWUL make sure you have a network connection then:

1. Open a blank terminal. Don't go through the LG icon on the desktop, just open Terminal Emulator.
2. Execute the below commands:
Code:
git clone https://gitlab.com/runningnak3d/lglaf.git
cd lglaf
3. From here on you can resume following the guide.
Code:
git checkout h872-miscwrte
./step1.sh
After the script runs, unplug and go back into download mode. It will take a few seconds, but TWRP will eventually boot.

I've downloaded another versions of it (persistant) and it worked.

So I tried this process and the first part using LGUP went well, but when I booted FWUL and followed the steps in part 2 the commands given in the op do nothing. I keep getting the error message:
"bash: /usr/bin/git: Input/output error"
Currently my phone is stuck in download mode with no way to get out aside from waiting for the battery to die.

I'm not sure what exactly the issue was but I managed to get it sorted. First I had installed the persistent version of fwul onto an old usb stick but after having issues I formatted it using the command prompt then installed the forgetful version and got a new usb cable. The commands shown in the op still didn't work but the ones posted by @n.j.stein a few comments before me did work, and allowed me to finally get twrp installed.
