Let me rephrase now that anxiety has calmed.

This step by step list is magnificently detailed, but i am so n00b i lost step as soon as the slightest modification came into play. I managed to install the replacment twrp i think, as i was able to mount storage

I do not get a "recovery-from-boot.p" or .bak to delete at the very last steps.

Also i lose root after booting once fully, then going back into twrp and formatting data (testing a full factory reset)

Can i get around this by just flashing 10e stock rooted?

Am i doing something wrong?

I can flash TWRP and It was replaced download mode, it will run TWRP when user go to download mode but failed to mount system as read/write (just read-only) so it is not root when boot to phone . Please help me to mount system as read/write.

You need to flash magisk or supersu after twrp

magisk has a hide option, cannot have xposed on, turn off and reboot and all should be well.

When flashing I (obviously) get different sha256sums when using this recovery instead of the repo provided one, however, the OP also talks about the values of !COPY being specific to the repo version. Should it still be safe to flash this twrp if the files differ by about 170 bytes?

I did have the mounting issues, but if you mount /system/ read only you should be able to create a backup and install magisk without problems. With root you can use flashify to flash the updated TWRP and install roms.
