This worked for 10.2.4 also,.

I'm on that hunt myself. I've installed Droidwall until I find it, but I'd rather just disable the updates.
The method listed earlier in this thread, via that link to another thread works for 10.2.4, but I've discovered something to make this process a little smoother: The second (Qemu) method isn't even necessary. All this does that actually *needs* to be done is it deletes /data/local.prop and replaces it with a new local.prop that contains "ro.kernel,qemu=1"

Basically, the first method fully roots the device perfectly and installs a working Superuser.apk, etc, but doesn't replace the local.prop which is why the KF runs p a i n f u l l y s l o w l y . . .

I'm going to edit the 'RunMe.bat' to add that particular step at the end and remove the extra crap (extra menu option for special devices, etc) and test it out. If it works after I un-root my KF, I'll zip it up and upload it then post a link here.

Great stuff it worked on 10.23 only first method i never got the slow down but when my kindle upgraded to 10.24 i had to use the second method because all went slow but all went well i deleted ota.certs hopefully will stop updates and i can force them manually when i need to via a manual update.

Yay

Haven't checked this thread lately, but I am happy to say I was not aware of the 10.24 update, as my kindle resisted it!

I wish I could tell you which method did the trick, but I used every technique I could find, from removing all permissions on a key file to setting SuperSU to fight mode.

At least I can verify it's possible.

I could use some help on this... I first tried to root my KF using this method, but the non-root fastboot mode by Pokey9000 didn't seem to work at all. The RunMe.bat does appear to have rooted the device now, but when I run the following command that I got from another tutorial...
Code:
adb shell su -c 'idme bootmode 4002'
...then try to reboot via 'adb reboot', it just starts right back up into the KF system. Is FB only available briefly while it's booting? Or is there another method to get into FB? Alternatively, is there another way to flash a replacement ROM that doesn't require FB?

Can you pm me a link to where you downloaded and installed without any issues? Thanks, in advance!
All I did was root it using the link on the first page, then manually copy over every file from gapps then chmod each one. Rebooted and was good to go with root and gapps. Gapps can be grabbed from goo.im/gapps

Thank you! Forgive my ignorance, but when you state you "chmod each one", what do you mean? Sorry, but thank you in advance!
