[ROOT] [MAGISK] Google Dialer (v31.0) & Google Contacts (v2.4.6) - March 27th, 2019

last update Oct 27, 2018
last updated in LG-V30 apps section Mar 27, 2019

OCTOBER 1ST 2018
hey guys, I'm moving this to the V30 apps section, and will continue to keep it updated.
All future releases will work on your V20, and most likely any other android phone as well.
There are magisk modules (safer) and arm versions (for older devices) are there now too!
~syndre
Link to continued thread in LG-V30 apps forum

My shared drive folder url will not change, so you can bookmark it or import it into your own google drive "shared with me"

Change log:

This should work on any phone running android 7.0+ (and maybe marshmallow too). I have a V20 and only test on that, so i'm posting this here. This post is the one Ill keep updated.

OK,
If you havent noticed, the Play Store page for the Nougat version of Google Dialer says "Your device isn't compatible with this version." And even trying to manually install the apk gives a similar error.

In short, if you flash the app into your system partition in TWRP recovery, it works just fine. I have packed a flashable zip that does just that.
This does not remove anything you have, like the LG dialer or contacts app. It only adds Google's Phone app as a separate "Phone"

Updated APK's to Phone v24 and Contacts v3.0.7

regular /system flashable zip HERE

NEW
Magisk Module I put together HERE
sorry it took so long
using either of these methods will allow you to download updates from the play store

June 15th, 2018
I was offered 4 different new updates from the Play Store today, and this post deserves an update, so here it is.
arm64 version of the dialer for our V20 and other arm64 phones (majority of you will want this one), the exact version of the apk's in the zip are:
Phone-com.google.android.dialer-2733912-v21.0.200268810.apk
Contacts-com.google.android.contacts-2115124-v2.8.4.199714199.apk
Download Link

arm version for your older phones still being used, I dont know why the contacts version is slightly different, but the apk's included are:
Phone-com.google.android.dialer-2733910-v21.0.200268810.apk
Contacts-com.google.android.contacts-2115123-v2.8.4.199714199.apk
Download Link

These apks are all (nodpi) in case anyone was wondering.
Finally, again, I update my zip files 3-4 times more often than this post gets updated. I upload everything else not seen here to a shared Google Drive folder which is available using this link, so if you're expecting an update that isn't noted here, theres a good chance that it'll be in there.

Have a good summer!

Updated apks in a new flashable zip with:
Phone-com.google.android.dialer-14.0.176716531-1924533
Contacts-com.google.android.contacts-2.3.7.175176256-2059755

I still havent had a chance to thoroughly test the video calling or screen sharing features with this version of the Dialer and Google Duo, but I know its active. You'll need Duo installed (get from play store) to have access to that stuff. I'm interested in if/how well itcom.google.android.contacts_2.5.4.186070557-2083760_minAPI21(nodpi) works or if theres any hiccups with those new things.

You can download from my shared Google Drive folder here https://goo.gl/67uQN9
the file is named Google_Phone.v14.0-arm64_Contacts.v2.3.7_(nodpi)-NOV282017-flashable.zip
Clicking the file name here is a direct link to it.

You should be able to just flash this new zip over any previous versions that were from this thread without any problems. If you do that and something isn't working, try wiping the data from both phone and contacts apps, then do a dalvik/cache wipe if problem persists. If something is still wrong after that, let me know. I dirty flashed without wiping anything and my dialer seems to function as it should.

Questions, comments, problems? Leave a reply and I'll get back to you soon.

November 4th, 2017
Today I was offered an update to the Google Phone app through the Play Store and it caught me off guard, because the version I was running was only 3 days old at the time. I accepted of course and immediately noticed that the APK file was a little bit over twice the file size as what I've been working with previously, interest was piqued. I started it up and it started saying stuff about integrated video calling with Google Duo, I went through the steps and it seems to be working but haven't really called anybody and tried it for real.
So that is why I am asking for you guys is help and feedback with this version in particular, if you want to test it out and see if everything works please get back to me as soon as it's convenient. I don't know at this point if I got this because everybody is getting it and it's a new release from them or if it's because of some other tweak that I have done on my phone and activated something different somehow. I'm pretty exhausted, coming down, and need a 2-day nap.

The file size for the zip is too big to keep posting on XDA, unfortunately, so I will provide a link to a shared folder on my Google Drive where are will start keeping all over releases from now on (theylll still be here to when possible)

The link to that folder I mentioned is here https://goo.gl/fQphzb file named Google_Phone.v13.0[Duo.Integration].arm64_Contacts.v2.2.3_(nodpi)-nov042017-flashable.zip

I feel like some kind of warning should come with this one because like I said I don't know if it is something I did on my phone that made this happen or if it's going out to everybody. So let me know!

October 31st, 2017
Ive been planning on making this into a Magisk module for awhile and got around to it finally. The magisk version is exactly the same as the latest non-magisk zip posted here, except its systemless. If you would like to switch from a previous install to the magisk version, just flash the remove zip (also new) and install the magisk module. You can to that without losing anything as far as app data goes by installing the magisk mod FIRST from magisk manager, then immediately rebooting into recovery and flash the remove zip.

Updated Dialer to v13.0.171616398
attached below

October 2nd, 2017
Updated Dialer to v12.0.1671-arm64
and Contacts to v2.2.3-all
You can flash this over any of my previous versions and be ok,
attached below

August 9th 2017
Updated Dialer to v11.0.164102751-arm64
and Contacts to v2.1.2.163775758-all
Framework is included.
Everything appears to be working without any issues for me after flashing the zip attached below.

July 9th 2017
I am positive "Nearby Places" is working on my V-20 using this (different from everything Ive used before today) framework file.
Instead of putting new zips of everything from my last July 4th update, I am just attaching that different framework separately.
If you are experiencing broken "Nearby Places", try flashing any of the below attached v9 or below zips 1st,
Then flash UPDATE-google_dialer_framework_only-2017-07-01.zip 2nd and see if this works for you.

July 4th 2017
I added a few new zip files with different versions of the Dialer app. I hope anyone having problems like what I have read from your posts in this thread can find one that works the way you're expecting. All of the apks are directly from apkmirror, no mods.
There are zips with version 8 and 9 and 10 of the Phone app. They are the same except for the dialer.

UPDATED June10th 2017
Phone .v10.0.155920708
and
Contacts.v2.0.9-200091
both of these apks are from apkmirror
flashable zip is attached to this post

sort of UPDATED June 4th 2017
no zip yet but you can upgrade to Phone v10 using instructions I posted here
I will provide a one step flashable zip attached here as soon as I can get (the patience to get) one working. It will be a week or so before I can play with a clean ROM.
If anyone out there figures it out and can provide a tested, working zip file, Id be happy to post and give you credit.

UPDATED May 13th 2017[/B
Google has updated their contacts app with lots of changes
Phone APK version 9.0.15513

This does not remove anything you have, like the LG dialer or contacts app. It only adds Google's Phone app as a separate "Phone"

Since it doesn't remove the LG phone app will this answer calls? Can it be assigned as the default phone and contact app?

yes, and yes, except it will use the LG app for contacts

Not trying to hijack the thread bit I have a zip as well that will accomplish the same thing but also includes google contacts.

Flash the original post if you just want the dialer or you can have this one if you want contacts too.

Side note when installing there will be an update for the dialer in the play store but it will install just fine as normal

Thanks for posting this OP

Yeah unfortunately on my H910 it crashes pretty often. I just decided to remove it because it was much more of a hassle than convenience.
It seems like some that have the T-Mobile H918 don't have much of an issue with it, but I can't confirm that.

Set as default app, then grant it all the permissions. That will stop the FC.

Thanks for sharing! Ive been using just the dialer app going back to my G3, usually on AOSP (so there was never an issue getting google contacts from the play store).

I hope you dont mind and by all means let me know if you do, I modified your zip with the newest versions of both the Dialer and Contacts apps that will work properly on 7.0 Nougat. I have flashed the attached zip in TWRP on my V20 and tested everything without any issues. I can only assume these 2 apps wont be able to be upgraded on our device until we have 7.1.

Anyways, thanks again, the updated zip is attached, inside is:

Gonna give this a shot now as well, thanks OP and others who've contributed..!

So everything works just fine, except for the voice mail part of the dialer.. When I click "settings" i get a force close.. Any fix for that..?? I just had removed the VVM.apk from the WETA rom in an attempt to use a newer VVM.apk, and ended up losing the app all together.. I even extracted the VVM folder from the WETA rom zip file and moved that over, and still doesn't work so I dont know what happened there.. So I just set up Google Voice, but I'd rather stick with a native voice mail if I could..

Thanks..!

edit - ok so while in the pixel phone app, and on the voicemail tab, instead of clicking "settings" and getting a FC, i clicked "ok" and it closed that pop up message, and in an effort to test it out i sent myself a voicemail from another phone and it actually seemed like my phone reinstalled the factory voice mail app that i managed to delete yesterday on accident.. Now the only thing here is that my phone now sends voicemail's to that factory voice mail app and not the pixel xl voicemail tab.. Anyone else have this issue..??

Also noticed another lil bug..

When I put my phone to my face, it doesn't turn the screen off anymore..

this is all related to the zip deleting important call info,

after testing it for a few hours i removed it due to it being broken fundementally.
Its removing your call apps that handle proximity sensors etc,
this would need to be changed.

if you open the zip, take the apks themselves and merge them to your system folder in their perspective spots,
DONT DELETE ANYTHING. If you already flashed this then re-flash your rom 1st.

After moving the apps to their spots, use Titanium backup or other similar app to freeze the 2 or 3 apps the updater zip deletes.
this way the connections to the sensors wont break, notifications etc should work, if you want to use stock you can just unfreeze the stock apps and remove or freeze the google ones.

i was going to post a updated method but after the hack i caught over testing it ill just refrain from that.

Ohhhh, so it's awesome, but has it's set backs at the same time lol..

Thanks for the detailed info on how to "fix" it, I'll give it a shot.. I did already flash the zip, but I'm testing out some diff roms today so once I find one I wanna play with for a week or so, I'll follow these instructions and hopefully be back in business..!

Thanks again!

So I flashed it. Dialer opens. But once I grant it phone permissions the app opens and immediately crashed. I don't get a FC message. But the app opens up and then immediately closes itself. Anyone else have this issue? It was working fine on the last Rom I was using. Now I'm using NSS 5.5 which its not working on.

I don't understand why, yet, but this new v18 apk is
about twice as large in file size as any previous(~32Mb).
    I got it from apkmirror.

this file is larger because I forgot to take out the odex file. You can remove it (dialer/oat folder) or just leave it, it won't hurt you.

    Phone .v10.0.155920708

sort of UPDATED June 4th 2017
no zip yet but you can upgrade to Phone v10 using instructions I posted here
I will provide a one step flashable zip attached here as soon as I can get (the patience to get) one working. It will be a week or so before I can play with a clean ROM.
If anyone out there figures it out and can provide a tested, working zip file, Id be happy to post and give you credit.

Too bad, I was hoping there'd be more development on this to make it problem-free.. It really does look way better then the stock dialer..

Unfiltered honesty; it works on mine. I'm depressed, and lazy. I have zero problem with anyone else taking what I've posted and developing it further.

just please include @chrisrj28 and @syndre
