i am too busy in this week so not much posts of me.

But you are wrong. Backup-Restore.apk is only present on Sony devices, this error is ok if you dont have a sony device, i do this inside of the script to check if the script should run in sony mode or it can run in the normal mode!

@HTC users: I cannot "fix" this, it is just not posible. There are 2 scenarios:
1.) Script runs fins and does not claim about permission denied on remounting, this scenario means that "temp-root" with local.prop was achieved successful, but now i am copying over su, superuser etc etc. Next step is a reboot. Well now comes the problem, on htc locked bootlaoders the partition does NOT SAVE any changes, this is emmc-write protection mode (may differ from phone if emmc is used or not, but principe stays same). Well so nothingi can do, if you unlock bootloader it will work, but this doesnt help here i think.

2.) If remount fails with "permission denied (Are you root?)" , temproot with local.prop does not work on your device, most likely it is fixed here, so no joy for this exploit. it can happen. we see same on thinkpad tablet, local.prop gets symlinked good but device just dont give a rootshell -> no chance to fix. another exploit is needed.

So this is all not fixable and totally good!

Just writing in to say, script works on an xTouch 506, which is basically an N8000 variant (Android 4.0.3 GPS WiFi TV) Chinese phone.

Tried a lot but this doesn't seems to work on Galaxy Nexus (Android 4.1.1 JRO03C).

I got the same script error as khrisless. My tablet S is 4.0.3 (r1a), ketnal 2.6.394, build TISU0R0010110. I wonder if my driver is messed up. Can someone please repost the Sony Tablet S Adb driver? The original Mediafire download link is no longer functional. Thank in advance.

The Paypal page comes up in the language of your country with my login pre filled it. I fill in a dollar amount and type my password and it doesn't accept it as valid. The response is in your language so I'm not sure exactly what the issue may be. Maybe it doesn't know my account in your country's version of paypal, I'm not sure.

Nevertheless: Your last posted log seems to have a program with adb and windows shell, it states that many commands are not recognizes, as ping for example, very strange, what system you are using ?

I use this can easy and 1 time do that, u can try again, i have same problem with u

Here is what I did:

0- Install adb driver in my PC and ensure that the Tablet S can be found by the PC. I used the command "adb devices".

1- Factory Reset my tablet s (due to failure of rooting in previous trial)

2- Resign VpnFaker.pak (same step as mine is Hong Kong version)

3- Download Bin4ary Root Restor v11

4- unpacked and replace new VpnFaker.pak in side rootkittablet.tar (I used Total Commandar to do this.)

5- Download app "Terminal Emulator" by Jack P from market, and go to settings->apps to move it to USB storage (as suggested by mattman83) (My tablet has the app already and was in USB storage.)

6- run the rume.bat selecting option 2 (special) and then selecting Root (1)

6.5- Follow the instruction on PC. You may need to restore the tablet twice. (Correct me if I was wrong.)

7- This time the terminal actually open

8- Following the instruction on PC which tell you to type following commends on the terminal of the tablet.
type this command - /data/local/tmp/onload.sh
Got this result "unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/mkdevsh: Operation not permitted" on terminal
type this command - /data/local/tmp/onload2.sh
got this result "unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/remount.sh: Operation not permitted on terminal
"
9- After this press enter and the device reboot and root.

10- Check if the rooting is success by Check Root apps.

Win7 64 bit. Sorry, had a bad path in environment variables. Fixed now. Tried v11 several times. Did get restore device, still no root. Thanks Bin4ry.

That approach worked for me and let me root my cheap chineese Telechips tablet
The only problem I had was that the shell script and the adb executable in the stuff folder didn't have the execute flag set on
Other than that - amazing apps
