I use heimdall on ubuntu 13.10 64 bit without problems .
Hi,

So that means Ubuntu 13.10 can run this script, may I ask you which Heimdall version you ran? Then I will update the script text to let users run it on Ubuntu 13.10.

Thanks for the up,
~Lord

Hi,

Yes it does, as it involves flashing a recovery. You can find a guide on Galaxy S4 development or Q&A probably ;).

Hi,

In the knox Q&A, it's reported that you can still receive updates with the knox 0x1, I recommend you checking it ;).

Add a new link or should we flag as defunct? Is that an option?
Hi,

Sorry I didn't notice the link was down... I need to update some links within the script and I will reupload.

Thanks for notifying!

I downloaded the file directly and it extracted ok, but daemon doesnt' see the phone anyway. I think it's because now Verizon Galaxy s4 runs Android 5. I am on Ubuntu 12.10.

Hi,

Sorry for taking so long... But have you tried turning on USB Debugging? Or could you be more specific regarding when the daemon doesn't see the phone?

***Update. I got another laptop and tried ubuntu 16 on it. It has all the tools up to date. I installed adb tool and it was 1.32 version. I used kingroot on the phone. Then using adb and a bunch of other tools to dump phone memory and search for deleted pics.
Here is the write up: I can't post links here, just google "one way to use a linux computer to recover files from android"
****

Hi, sure I turned USB debugging on. I tried using "adb devices", but it shows the device "????? restricted" and then, when the
gvsf-mtp package detects and shows the contents of the phone, adb devices returns "[somename] offline"
I tried to solve this offline problem and found in other threads that it's due to old adb version - it doesn't work well with androind 5.0.1. I could not update adb though because the newer package required an updated openssl to 1.0.2 which for some reason I couldn't do in my ubuntu.
