yes,you are right.in fact,in past ten days,I try many times to get a balance,aa 5.8 and play service 18.7.13 looks ok,and i have aa 5.8 and screen2auto suceful old backup on computer,i copy these and playservice not ask aa update on my s7edge ,it looks everything ok,even i did'nt need to install play store and google count.but,when i connect to car unit,it show me miatake 8,i don't think car unit and cable have problem,so i have to update service,you know the result ,update aa again,and after update aa,aaai patch screen2auto,s2auto on aa list,press car unit screen2auto,not turn 90degree again,just black screen,it looks screen try to work,but phone on change

All Google apps have a time bomb. That means after a certain time you cannot use them anymore. Therefore you have to update anyway.

When you start AA, it connects to G servers and finds that it must be updated

First it will just ask for update - but would still continue to work.
Later, when becoming too old, it would no more work

You don't need to update to the latest. You can download and try yourself some newer versions (but still not the latest - if you are afraid of the latest) from APKMirror

But again, even currently the latest AA version would become old after six or twelve months, asking for update and later stopping to work

With detaching you only prevent Playstore to start asking (or to accidentally update) AA every month or so when Google releases new AA version.

But I say we need a modified AA that doesn't know what date it is or can't reach out to Google to inquire if it should be updated.

Then we will be better off.

Eg, on my MIUI 13/Android 12, I still have Android Auto v8.2.623924 from October '22

By use of detaching, Playstore does not complain, neither it updates my AA

However, upon I connected my phone to the car, AA itself gives me a notification on the phone that soon I will have to update my AA if I would want to continue using it

But for now that old AA still works, particularly my Fermata Auto app works (installed as Magisk module) and I can play YouTube (even while driving) on the infotainment screen in the car

Hence for now I don't need to (re)install anything, (re)configure anything, restore my previous AA or Fermata backups - they all work as they were installed and configured like three months ago

PS:
Long ago I gave up on Screen2Auto - I never really needed to write mails, browse Internet or so on the car screen

And Netflix cannot play in the car - but due to DRM restrictions

Hence Fermata for YT playing is practically all I need (besides the regular AA features like navigation and so)

Not to mention how S2A required almost a day care. One day it works, next day it disappears from AA (and I needed to wipe my AA Data and to restore my old AA Data to get it working again), etc - too much troubles for nothing I really need

EDIT:
I changed my mind and wanted to test - I let AA to update, it updated to v8.5.624594 and it did not affect my Fermata installation - Fermata continues to work as previously with the older version of AA

Do you have aa 5.8 backup with data, I mean app+data? If yes, I could try to fight with this, I am curious if this is the case of time bomb or updates in this version, if you could send me the aa 5.8 app+data...

The Time bomb is independent of updates/internet connection. It is just about date, nothing more. After specified time it just stops working and demands update (causes error 8), but it is possible that error 8 can be also caused by updates/internet conneciton (either time passed or update).

The time bomb works also offline...no matter what you do, there is an expiration date.

Edit: the best thing would be a modified APK. I tried that but was not successful. With every modification Android Auto did not start any more.

Im on the same boat.
LG Android 8 (unlocked BL rooted), Waze does not work on latest AA.
Older AAs force update...

Guess I'll have to upgrade to Android 9, but I dont know how to do a stock update without losing app/data.

New version of AA AIO TWEAKER (version 5.2.0) is live on GitHub and brings the following changes:

• DELETED: Option to pre-activate the custom seating option has been removed as merged into AA
• DELETED: Casting app as it was deleted from AA
• UPDATED: Option for activating Coolwalk has been updated with new logic and new features merged
• UPDATED: Logic for the app patching
• ADDED: Option to pre-activate Assistant suggestions on top of AA's launcher
• ADDED: Option for adding a custom link shortcut to Android Auto. It is a left over of Android Auto's Easter Egg which includes full webview which actually goes full screen too. No back button and no keyboard support though.
• ADDED: Option to pre-activate message auto-read.
• UPDATED: Translations

Thanks for your new release, @shmykelsa! Unfortunately on my Pixel 7 Pro with the rooted stable stock January 2023 firmware, 5.2.0 of the app FC's on me. I was on 5.0.2 previous to this, which worked. I wiped cache and app data but it didn't make any difference.

Is there information or logs you want that I could provide to help?

Edit: I forgot to mention, it FC's immediately after I click the I Understand button, after the timer runs out.
