I always rooted in a simpler way

Flash stock ftf (enable usb debuging)

Reboot and connect in fastboot

Flash boot.img kernel from custom roms (i.e. omni rom or cm)

Reboot into recovery (omni rom kernel comes with twrp)

Flash supersu

Reboot in flash mode

Flash stock kernel

Reboot

Done

It's an easier way for sure, but you forgot to mention that you need unlocked booloader to do this (to flash non stock kernel) and i think most of ppl are on locked bootloader

Thank you soo much !!
I wanted root without wipe.
I downloaded only the necessary kernel files for my tab from the OP and started at step 14.
It worked like a charm :good: :highfive:

EDIT: I (still) have a locked bootloader :)

Just did the same thing. Was completely stock 4.4.4 on my SGP311, never rooted before. Flashed the 230 image, used towelroot, and flashed the 283 image back. Then used the dual recovery installer to get TWRP. Nice and easy!

(note that my bootloader is unlocked)

summarize the procedure...

The method is too long... i suggest the OP should trim this down.

-If you already updated to 4.4.4, just flash the .230 kernel..reboot and do the root procedure using towelroot.
-then power it off to flash the .283 kernel then reboot. that's it...

30 items is i guess pretty confusing for newbies..hehehe peace man. :p

First of all: Thanks you very much, I was looking a way to root again my SGP312.

Second, a newbie question:
My device it´s from México, so FlashTools says branding VMo MX and I wonder, the uploaded kernel would be compatible with my device or do I need to download a branded kernel with Flash Tools?

Thanks in advanced! :D

will be compatible. There are no branded stock kernels.

Help with kernels

Hi to all, can someone help the users of SGP351 posting the required kernels to update and Root the Tablet Z to 4.4.4 KitKat, I'm from LatinAmerica, I'm not sure if the Kernels for US are the same for LatinAmerica, thanks. :good:

Kernel 10.5.1.A.0.283 for SGP351
Kernel 10.5.A.0.230 for SGP351

the're the same as in SGP321. At least you can flash .230 SGP321 kernel, get root, and then flash only kernel from your .283 SGP351 firmware via flashtool.
