actually it is not. To flash through fastboot. You have to mess with unlocking bootloader, which leads to DRM-partition being wiped.

So instead of doing it. You can install XZDualRecovery for locked bootloader and perform your steps.
No, I've never unlocked. With my brand new OnePlusOne I booted with " fastboot boot recovery.img ". Then I flashed su-ZIP from SD. Voila, OPO is rooted :).
After that I used flashy to flash recovery.

Perhaps OnePlusOne got unlocked bootloader, like the Samsung devices. Sony got locked, just as the Nexus line, even though both Sony and Google show how to unlock.

So in the case of this thread, for a device with the bootloader locked as stock, your version is messier, since you need to unlock the bootloader. I don't know how it is when you unlock it on Sony, but on my Nexuses, unlocking bootloader = full wipe.

Yes, on Moto, Sony etc is the unlock procedure => fullwipe :(

Back to OPO:
Today I upgraded to R38, to get the new FW...
- I removed my custom ROM (recovery full wipe + system-wipe)
- switch tofastboot mode, and fastbooted the latest FW R38 img/bin/mbn's.
- reboot to full wiped OPO with R38 FW/system

So, on latest FW it worked to boot recovery over USB:
- I switched to fastboot mode
- with "fastboot boot recovery.img" I'm in recovery to flash su-ZIP from internal SD
- OPO is rooted :)

On Sony it is full wipe + DRM partition format. So you wan't be able to use some sony specific functions, unless you get root and backup DRM partition prior to bootloader unlock.

"Towelroot, nothing happens. The app does not open. If I manually install Towelroot and try to run it on 230, it tells me to connect to the internet first, which does not work."

Same here any solution?

on the video, the unpluging and replugging indicate push on BACK - however the tablets do not have a BACK KEY, canyou pls help this 70 y.old noob trying to upgrade by telling me which key to press,
i think it is the VOLUME DOWN KEY IS THE EQUIVALENT TO THE BACK KEY ON THE PHONE, but i am not sure
please let me know
also if i understood this rite, first you flash with the FULL created package then you flash with ONLY THE SMALLER created bundle then you flash the superuser to root
or i flash with the downloaded kernel and then with the rootkit if i don't want to erase everything. is is correct.
sorry for being a pest, i would appreciate your help so much, so far my tablet tell me that i have an upgrade ready to install but it's the previous android, if i do install it will i automatically get the new version and will only need to root the tablet. if this is the case then i don't need to go thru all this correct.
again thanks for your help

Requirements:

I do all Firmware downloads with the build in function from Flashtool !
Below is a Youtube Video that show all the Steps here. (without Steps XX.a for
Rootk1t Kernels files)

Please, read the instructions exactly and flash, i will not responsible for any Brick/failures/data loss on your Tablet.
Do this only if you know what you are doing, you void your warranty!

How to Root with full Wipe: (without Wipe see the Screenshot below)

How to Root without Wipe:

Recovery flash :

Here my "Video-tutorial" to do that.
But .....
You see only the Screen on my PC
No Sound
Full Process length no cuts :( but you can -> jump forward
Without Downloads it takes about .... 20min.
In my case a Full Wipe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvAPHAN2Ots

If you find a fault in this Steps, tell me please.

Big Thanks to :

I hope this Steps helps someone to Root and maybe it works on SGP3xx ....

I think 2 of my posts might help

Thank you. Worked as a charm(after I figured out how to get in flashmode... volume down while connecting the USB).
I did the easy way. I downloaded 10.5.A.0.230 and 10.5.1.A.0.283 kernels from the links.
I already had 10.5.1.A.0.283(4.4.4) stock installed, so no need to flash the whole thing.
So, flashed 10.5.A.0.230.
Started the tablet.
rooted with towelroot/SuperSU
Flashed 10.5.1.A.0.283
Finished, rooted, and no wipe.
Do you already have 283(4.4.4) installed? if so, no need to create it. Just download the 2 kernels from the links.

1. Start the device in flashmode(press volume down while connecting the USB cable).
2. Flash 4.4.2 kernel.
3. Start device
4. Force towelroot(I did the supersu version)
5. Go back to flashmode.
6. Flash 4.4.4 kernel(283)
7. Boot device.. YaaaY, you got root.
But mainly. Flashmode = press volume down WHILE connecting the USB
If you already have 4.4.4 (283) and don't wanna wipe.

EDIT/
I just saw that your tablet say that you got an update.
For me, I installed the update(which was for 4.3.*), then the 4.4.4 update showed up, so I had to upgrade twice. Then I did the following
/End EDIT
1. Start the device in flashmode(press volume down while connecting the USB cable).
2. Flash 4.4.2 kernel.
3. Start device
4. Force towelroot(I did the supersu version)
5. Go back to flashmode.
6. Flash 4.4.4 kernel(283)
7. Boot device.. YaaaY, you got root.

I did it exactly as stated her - three times! - but the same problem: WiFi is not working (cannot turn on wifi).
Any idea?
...now I discovered that till step 21 wifi is ok, but after flashing the kernel and reboot the problem appears. Smth wrong with kernel? Should I use .250 instead?

Hello guys...
I have some questions I'm hoping you could help me with.
I have an Xperia Tablet Z (SGP321 model) with stock ROM (version 4.4.4, Build 10.5.1.A.0.283). I previously wanted to unlock my bootloader and flash a custom ROM, because the tablet has become rather slow since upgrading to this current stock release.
I've since found out (using the *#*#7378423#*#* method) that I can't unlock the bootloader on my device (Rooting Status -> Bootloader unlock not allowed), so I'll settle with just root access.
This is the part I'm unsure of:
Can I use the method described in this thread (without wipe) to root my device?
I wouldn't like to wipe my device, but in case I decide to so - can I use this method?
And just one other question: I've been unable to find a solution which enables to flash custom ROMs to Tablet Zs with "Bootloader unlock not allowed" status set. Is there such a solution?
Thanks ;)

yes, you can use method from this thread. Not bootloader unlock needed.

Thanks for the help.
How about the flashing of custom ROMs with locked bootloader? I do know that this is not quite the right thread for this question - but if someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

Hi, just to confirm I understand correctly and that my assumptions are correct - I am currently running the latest 4.4.4 OTA not rooted with a locked bootloader (lost root after update). If I follow the above steps I can obtain root, not have to unlock the bootloader, and will have no issues doing the 5.0 OTA when it launches?

That's how I did it., no unlock or anything needed.
When it comes to 5.0 OTA, Well, I had my 4.3 rooted, with no unlocking of bootloader etc, and I got the 4.4.4 OTA. My guess is that Sony won't check through our devices to see if we have a small binary called "su".
Though you never can be 100% sure when it comes to Sony, they are known to infect peoples computers with "rootkits" to spy on mp3 use and so, but my guess is still that it won't be any problem.

I'm having a hell of a time trying to get this recovery working...

I cannot install ANY ROM meant for this device. I dont know what the heck is going on.

I have the Xperia Z Tablet WiFi . The SGP311. When I try to install any ROM using TWRP I get the following error...
"This package is for "SGP311, SGP312, pollux_windy" devices; this is a "pollux""

Why the heck do I get this error. I am sure if I try to install a "pollux" ROM I will hose up my device since its meant for the LTE device correct?

Any suggestions or others see this before?

It almost seems like the recovery is the wrong version and thinks my device is a pollux and not a pollux_windy...

I ran that walkthrough for the lockeddualrecovery which went right though and flashed the recovery but it looks to have flashed the wrong version. Is there an updated one for this device?

This is where is got the dualrecovery from...
After your Tab have ROOT just go to :
http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Download TabZ-lockeddualrecovery2.x.x.x -BETA.installer.zip to your PC
unzip and run the install.bat (Windows) or install.sh (Linux).
Chose Superuser or SuperSU (in my case SuperSU)

Is there a way to fastboot flash the twrp recovery for this device?

Thanks!!
