If your bootloader is locked, you cannot use fastboot. Select flashmode, instead.
It should not be. At least flashtools unlock option gives only relock option. Well I managed to do the rooting using flashmode, though it wasn't anywhere near clear howto update only firmware with that.

And I quess updating latest kernel kills the twrp? possibility to boot twrp disappeared.. well, at least it's now rooted.

Ok. The reason I ask is that I'm having issues after flashing the recent 6.0.1 ftf and then trying to flash the 575 kernel they this guide suggests. I tiny he batch file and it doesn't install twrp or reboot in to it.

Any idea why?

Have you noticed that the SGP551 kernel in the OP is in the ftf format? Try to install it and and see if your tablet boots up fine with it.

No sorry I didn't notice that. I just selected the kernel for SGP511. I'll try that one and report back.

Thanks

Hi casouzaj,

I have tried SGP551 FTF kernel but my SGO511 device does not boot on the installed system version of 6.0.1.

Any other way of getting this to work and be rooted?

Thanks

I have a solution for you. Launch Flashtool, click on the XF icon (the last one in the icons list on the top). When XperiFirm comes in, Select Xperia Z2 Tablet Castor on the left part, then SGP511 Wi-Fi, and select the only 23.5.A.0.575 ROM available for your tablet, the 1281-7858 Taiwan Customized TW one. Click on the 23.5.A.0.575 / R2D field on the right. A download window takes over. Click on Download. When the ROM is downloaded and unpacked ('Downloaded successfully' appears). Click on Close to close the download window. Then, click on the X in XperiFirm's window to kill it. Flashtool will resume its work, which will culminate with the creation of the ftf file.

To install this ROM's kernel only, after selecting flashmode and this ROM, tick all the checkboxes in the exclusion list on the right, including those Misc TA ones on the botton, except the kernel box. Only 'kernel.sin' should remain in the list of components to be flashed. Then, click on Flash.

Hope it works for you.

I have tried your suggestion and it's booted great, the only issue I have now is once I run the batch file it installs twrp and roboots the tablet but doesn't go in to twrp.

Any ideas how to get that to work?

Have you seen my conversation with @shoey63 right above this post of yours? @danalec still have to include the SGP511 variant to his tool. Please, wait some time for his response.

Yes, you're absolutely right! @danalec, could you download that ftf and extract kernel.sin yourself?
Where?

Beg pardon? SGP511 is supported and already included since beta01.

Are you talking about nscxp2005's dialog with you? Actually he asked for SGO511 not SGP511.

Hi casouzaj,

I have tried SGP551 FTF kernel but my SGO511 device does not boot on the installed system version of 6.0.1.
If you like to request to support another Xperia variants, please post the kernel image as I mentioned in the main post.

Neither me, that's why everyone should post the kernel file
The data does not lie
@nscxp2005, if your SGO511 device booted up with the SGP511 575 kernel, I wonder if it would do so with a full ROM. You could download a 291 ftf from the SGP511 branch, keep the 575 kernel for the root tool to work, then install SuperSU and other zips under TWRP, then install the 291 kernel back. Backup your data beforehand, if you decide to try it.
