Try starting the program with the phone unplugged, then plug it in once it is started up
I have tried that.I get the image of the phone on my computer screen and at the bottom of the screen it tells me HT xxxxxxxx connected not a Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE.

I never get the "Root Me" message.

It's there. It's the third option. The two big ones and the first little one is disk drive

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
Mine has it. The 2 big options at top are Charge only and HTC sync...then directly under them first option is Disk Drive
Charge only and HTC Sync on top and below are
USB tethering
Media sync
Internet pass through

Can use Media sync to see drive...just no Disk Drive option? Is something not mounted correctly and thats why it doesn't show?

Reg...sorry to clog up your OP with this. Thought you'd know if I did this in rooting etc. or with rom, or.... Also get message e:/ unable to stat '/sdcard2/' in TWRP at the end after flashing anything. Any of this remotely related?

Media sync IS the new disk drive method. Google switched protocols from USB/MS to MTP. MTP is safer, as with the USB/MS method, every time you mounted as a drive there were potential risks to your data with the other device hosting it. With MTP, your phone will be sharing data with the other host (i.e. you data will still be available on the phone side while mounted and sharing)

With USB/MS, every time you unmount, there was the potential for wiped data. No longer. Google the terms and look for an Android Central article about it. It's a great read.

That said, I still nave never been able to get my crappy XP PC to see the data on my lte. Wrong drivers or something. Works just fine on my buddys Win7 PC.

Aha!!! :D Appreciate the info on new Media Sync vs. old Disk Drive. Some folks keep saying they have Disk Drive option. Thought I was missing something or had glitch...especially since I keep getting following TWRP errors:

E:/ unable to stat '/sdcard2/' in TWRP at the end after flashing anything but the flash takes.
E: Unknown backup method for mount -- Error occured, check recovery.log. Aborting. But still restores backup and boots up fine.

Been awhile since I had pc to phone issues but recall way back having to uninstall all the htc-driver stuff and reinstalling to get it to work.

It will say something about insecure element if it's bricked. I would advise to not allow SU access when it asks. Apparently it will say unsupported device after rooting. That is normal.

This is all from what I've read. I've been having issues with wallet, myself, so I can't give first hand info.

@jelive
Yeah, I saw the posts, too, of people saying Disk Drive was the third option, etc. Was thinking wth. so I figured I'd chime in for ya and stop the misinformation ;)

The TWRP error. Are you trying to backup ext_SD, but don't have it mounted in mounts?

so if i root, and say unroot later, will it still say tampered? does it even matter if it says that?

i mean, if i go back to best buy cuz i broke something, will they still take it?

Ok...after Capt_Throwback pointed out the errors of my ways now know the issue with Disk Drive, plus errors on flashing, restoring people are seeing .... :)

TOTALLY forgot that EVO LTE doesn't ship with an external sd card, only the "internal" one. The only option you will show when usb connected is the Media sync to access your internal sd card files and you will get errors when flashing, restoring, etc. but everything still works regardless of errors.

If you open phone cover and add a external sd card you will then show the Disk Drive in your options for external sd card (plus the Media sync for internal sd card) when usb connected and no more errors on flash, restore, etc.

Why won't this program recognize my phone as a EVO LTE? It list the serial number of my phone and tells me it is not a Sprint EVO 4G LTE.

thanks for making video's bro!!! deff helped me out big time!!!!:D
I just learned something new... If you have custom recovery and a custom rom installed... the bootloader doesn't like being relocked. I got "Security Warning" on the bootloader (under relocked) and had no choice but to run the RUU.... wondering if I should include that in this video or not! :)

EDIT: Video is done. It's gonna be a picture in picture (Like this one, and this one. Defintiley going to be the best video of your method to date! I'm gonna be putting several hours into this. MAY NOT finish until tomorrow, but I'll try! It's currently 3:45 Central time as I type this! :)

EDIT 2: Lots and Lots of editing to do...

Anyone else getting this error message in the play store?

Not sure how this is related to the rooting procedure... Anyone else have ideas on this?

Not sure, I'm trying to come up with a fix, but haven't been able to reproduce that. Have you rooted your phone before and done any build.prop edits?

Since the bootloader is locked again and it stills senses an unsigned partition (recovery) it gives that security warning. When you unlock again, it should get rid of that warning.
