This worked 2.3.6/6.12.173.xt912.en.US

Was having no luck on a new-to-me RAZR with 2.3.6, then I found and tried MotoFail, worked like a charm.

Found the link here: http://vulnfactory.org/blog/2012/02/11/rooting-the-droid-4-a-failed-bounty-experiment/
Direct link: http://vulnfactory.org/public/motofail_windows.zip

This also worked for me with the Razr Maxx, version 2.3.6 of android and 6.12.173.xt912.verizon.en.US. OP did not work but this one worked like a charm, 3 total reboots and about 5 total minutes. Thanks!

hi i have a big problem, iv just "downgraded" via fastboot from AOKP ICS rom to 651.73.30 Gingerbread android version 2.3.5 i think, now i can root, but as soon as i go to 651.167.20 via fastboot i cant root anymore, im pretty sure i could do that before.... something funny i noticed is that the 167.20 file, when installed, updates to 167.19 instead....

When I try running the runme.bat, it shows the above message in cmd prompt. I'm not sure how to take it out of read-only.

EDIT: I tried this root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342567 and it worked perfectly.

Can't get any root method to work on 6.5.167. Have probably rooted different phones over 100 times over the last few years. I am blaming Win 64 for screwing with ADB, but I'm pretty sure I rooted from my windows 64bit rig with the same methods already. This exact same phone in fact. Frustrating.... I now have no root!

Hi, I will be picking up my Asian Retail (Hong Kong) Razr Maxx this weekend, so I am new in the Razr section. Just want to ask, does this root method work for Asian GSM Maxx as well? Other than that, does the other posts that says [GSM] on the title works for me too?

Yes, it'll work. You may get errors messages, just keep doing and you be root. This script is pretty safe. The bad can happen is it do not root. :D

And, congrats by de GSM Razr Maxx. It's a fantastic device.

Cheers

Checked 15 ways from Sunday, - mempodroid exploit using mem address 0xd6c4 0xad33 DOES NOT WORK on Droid RAZR with 4.0.3 version 6.7.1-68_DHD-15_M4-17 (.)
My guess is that this update change the mapping of the MEM point used in the exploit.
Anyone know how did saurik determine the MEM location? Or if there is a potential update location we can try?
Thanks,

P.S.
May help to add pause at the end of the script so when it fail you can see what steps did not work....

Does not work with 6.5.1-167_SPU-15-M2-3.

My friends this new method is capable for root any version ICS...
Test on script and test manualy...
I wait your tests...
and... Test primary and reboot... if not rooted
Test second chance with not reboots... reboot only in the finish of commands...

Just installed the latest leak and lost root. Tried razr utility, motofail and another root option and none of them works. Keeps saying file exists and permission denied. I have su app but it doesn't work.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
