DOOM!.. please help me,
I need to root my dad´s phone to erase bloatware
It´s a xperia LWW wt19a with bootloader LOCKED
kernel .587
os 4.0.4

Should I flash the .562 kernel to root with this method? There is any possibilities to brick the device if I do that since I have the bootloader LOCKED?

please help me..
thanks in advance

[ info ]

FOR WINDOWS ONLY

THIS WILL WORK ON BOTH LOCKED AND UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS

ok guys so i was directed to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24847709&postcount=18

where the user rasgula has posted a rooting toolkit...

it was slightly difficult to use for some users so i have modified it to make it fully automated with least user interaction ;) also as a bonus it will install busybox too...

for those who dont know this is the well known old "andorid emulator" hack/trick... its surprising that Sony left those permissions on /data partitions... Dan rosenberg has posted lots of research material regarding this kind of hack for other android devices...

Credits for this go to the person who found that this old trik/hack works on Sony's Xperia 2011 ICS firmware!

anyways the rooting toolkit is in the downloads section below

[ requirements ]

  1. stock ICS firmware 4.1.A.0.562 for your device
  2. ADB drivers installed (if u are not sure, then install this)
  3. the attached package

[ READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY! ]

This script will:
  1. root ur device using "andorid emulator" trick
  2. install Busybox (1.18.4)
  3. install SU files (ICS specific)
  4. do some checks for free space, tmp directory (will remove Google Maps if required)

Before u begin:
  1. make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
  2. enable "USB DEBUGGING" - from (Menu\Settings\Developer Options\Development)
  3. enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES" - from (Menu\Settings\Security)
  4. [OPTIONAL] increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
  5. connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC
  6. skip "PC Companion Software" prompt on device

[ WARNING ]

make sure that no other adb server is running in background (e.g.: Flashtool, PCC, SEUS) and disable any antivirus

[ how to install? ]

  1. make sure that you are on stock ICS firmware 4.1.A.0.562
  2. download the file posted below and save it on c:\
  3. extract ALL the files in the zip
  4. now just double click on "runme.bat"
  5. sit back read the on screen instructions
  6. the device will reboot a couple of times
  7. when the script finishes it will say "ALL DONE"
  8. enjoy!

Nope, u flash using flashtool a ftf file
Flashing stock ftf using flashtool actually unbricks :D

Just flash the.562 kernel and then follow this rooting process
You should be good to go.
Then you can flash back. 587 kernel alone and that's it. ;)
There is no chance of bricking it unless you mess up with the steps mentioned.
Good luck

Do we have to be in flashmode/fastboot or just connect the Phone to PC before running runme.bat? cause were stuck at daemon is now starting

Just connect it to the PC via USB. Be sure that all processes with adb are terminated in the task manager and close FlashTool!

EDIT: Problem solved!!!
You're gonna laugh... I don't know why I felt like launching File Manager app and went to '/app' folder.
Guess what?? Superuser appeared in the list. I tapped on it, selected "instal". I don't know why it worked!
Then it finally appeared in my apps, and now I'm root!
I could install CWM and launch TB with root access... YEEEEEHAAAAAA!!! (sooooo happy :D)

Bottom line: I think eRoot worked on the 1st attempt, just something went wrong when installing the Superuser app.

I'll leave my post below in case it can help someone else.
__________________________________________________

Dear all,

I tried this method as explained in the OP but it didn't work.
I get "permission denied" or "read-only" errors since the beginning of the script (mkdir).
When reading the whole thread I was surprised that some people got the same errors and nobody ever answered them to explain what was going on.

My guess is that the .562 kernel flash didn't work work.
Can someobdy confirm that from my flashtool log below please?

Then what can I do to make it work?

Any help greatly appreciated!!

Phone: ARC S

What phone do you have?
What kernel did you put before trying to run the script?

Have you tried eRoot? Much easier and faster, no risks. Try it first then tell us if it worked.
