Well your firmware version is different from what was on there....you can give it a shot and see if it works...in theoryit should...I don't think the root was based on a specific firmware...even I updated to the ota update in February and still was able to root using this method...as always it's your phone and your responsible for what ya do to it...here is a screen shot on my info...yours is now LD2 instead of LB3

I also came across that thread but from what I can tell it its a type of downgrade to LB3 then root.

I have not done it as I don't want to downgrade as I still have hopes of an OS upgrade in the near future.

I was able to root after updating to LD2 (via USB connection to Kies, OTA kept failing probably because I was rooted) simply by reapplying the steps from the first post. So far so good! I wish Samsung/AU would give us ICS...
thanks it worked for me too! !

To tell you the truth I don't know...I'm getting a sgs 3 in a couple of days...which means I can really go in on my sgs 2 and not be afraid to brick it...I'm the coming days I'll try some different roms including ics to see if it's compatible...so lets keep our fingers crossed...it would seem you would be able to update using a different method a long the lines of the above posts...they were able to update even after root..just a but more work...hopefully it's the same for a full on OS upgrade...

wow, you migrated to docomo already?
anyways, thanks for the quick reply. I found along some post in this forum about some 'android kitchen' where we can 'cook' our own roms. have you tried doing that?

Maybe if I have some time this weekend I'll try rooting and "cooking", and see what happens.

Decided to go ahead and root my S2 Wimax.
I used the files provided in the first post and other than not realizing that the Clockwork Recovery that we replace the stock with is touch screen capable (ie.. I haven't had to use clockwork recovery since my droid x and you went through the menu with the volume and home button... but on this one it kept restarting it until I realized I can just touch the menu items... blonde duh moment).

Everything seems to be fine, of course I don't have au one market (no tears here) but it looks like the NFC works just fine (at least I have my locked icon from disabling it from before.... safety reasons).

Well, now I just have to hope we can come up with some type of custom rom or something.

well of course busy box...a lot of the apps i use are pretty common in my opinion...such as juice defender which really does extend the battery almost by x2...people tend to use es file explorer, i use solid explorer which is pretty darn good...tube mate for downloading videos from youtube and what not...i use screen off so i dont have to hit the power button to turn the screen off....instamusic is a real great music app that looks really nice in my opinion...dpi changer utility is great for changing the dpi, there were a couple fo apps and games that wouldnt work for the massive screen until i changed the dpi...i also downloaded the Pandora app thats floating around in these fourms and as long as ive had my wifi on connected to my phone when i go out and about it still plays through the japanese servers!!....besides that i use go ex launcher with an ics overlay..ill post a screen shot of my home screen a little later..i havent pulled any of the bloatware off yet...but after thursday i will..ive read on other phones pulling some of samsung bloatware stalled the phone...so be sure to make a back up using rom manager or another like app...dont forget google black search and voice, it uses a black screen which is super friendly and battery friendly on amoled screens...being in japan the messaging app Line is becoming super popular...i havent tweaked my phone too much because i was afraid of screwing it up being the only one i had but thatll change thursday and ill be able to go "hard in the paint" with...install a custom kernel and some cpu governors...as the phone is it has a very high quadrant standard score, i get close to 4000, ive posted it before...so this weekend ill see what magic i can get with this phone...

lol...im glad i wasnt the only one that kept missing the fact that the clockwork recovery was touch screen, at first i thought i had broken something...im glad it worked out just fine for you...someone filled me in that the reason that my nfc wouldnt work is because i didnt have a specific sim card that supported nfc?...i guess...but ill see if itll change once i start messing with custom roms and stuff for this phone this weekend...work keeps me pretty busy during the week...

Hey chronoknight,

Does that mean that u've rooted the phone, then u upgraded to LD2 using kies (which causes the phone to become unrooted again?)??

Yes, I rooted my phone using the instructions on this page, then I updated my phone with kies. After the update, it was unrooted again. I did the exact same steps from this page and successfully rooted my phone again with the updated software.
