Hi, i am planning to buy au GALAXY SII WiMAX ISW11SC from JAPAN. I want to ake it sim-free so that i can use in foreign countries. I just want to know any free methods or guide to make the phone sim-free. Please help. Thanks in advance.
Has anyone verified if rooting unlocks the sim? I can't find the unlock for this phone anywhere.

been trying for the last week and still havent found a ROM that works correct for this phone...i think it just maybe the kernel or something....i will test a different sim card in the morning to see if this root unlocks for different carriers....sadly my sgs3 uses a microsim card..or else this wouldve been alot easier...

im back in Australia and have taken my ISW11sc with me i followed the ROOT method and works like a charm.
unfortunately it did not unlock the sim slot.

I would really like to know if these units actually can be unlocked and have the GSM radio installed or its is hidden in the OS already so that it can be accessed if find it unlikely that GSM feature was taken out completely from the ISW11SC
this version of the S2 is the best and the display is so much better than the normal 9100 series so i hope some of you guys can continue to work on this phone and hopefully make it happen.

unfortunatly after trying tons of roms nothing seems to stick...the only way to make a custom rom for this phone seems to be actually cooking a rom from scratch...im told its not too hard....im looking into it right now....

au one market

Hello people,
I don't have a SII, but I got the OG Evo on au, on which I've made a custom ROM for Japanese users.
Now we face the same problem with the au one market not being accessible to rooted users. I know there are work arounds out there but I haven't been able to find one with very clear instructions. I wondered if any of you over here have had any luck or know of any how to's as I've had requests from some users.

I'd be grateful for any info.
Cheers

no...i tried a couple of work arounds on from japanese forums but none of them work...you really want to use au market? must have some good stuff in there, lol...im no developer but im looking into taking a CM7 Rom or something similar as base, pushing our phones data to it in hopes of creating a custom Rom for the japanese sgs2....ill try the bootloop thread at the top of the page first though...any advice on this phone would be helpful...

Actually, I got the au market working on my rooted phone.
I tried everything I could think of....totally botched my phone and ended up doing a nandroid restore to just after I rooted.....then I opened up au market....let it update and now it works.
I never user it...but I just wanted to try and solve it.

I will try and attach my apk from a titanium backup.

I'm not too sure on touchwiz.
But with CM most likely the hard part will be getting wimax ported over. And if the framework is set up anything like the evo then getting sms functioning will be a pain too.
Your best bet is start with the au stock rom, strip out any bloat, maybe the touchwiz, get a replacement launcher and search the sgII and hacking threads for possible mods to add in. I haven't had any experience with the sgII so...

Thanks for this thread--

I just got this phone and was looking for a possible solution to the very annoying camera shutter sound. It is the Galaxy S2 Wimax by au, and based on what I've read on this thread the instructions you provided here should work, though I have a few questions.

I'd like to keep the phone as stock as possible. All I really want is to turn off the camera sound.

I don't mind not being able to use the au market, but I'd like to use the phone in the Japanese language. Will rooting it affect any of the stock language capabilities or keyboard settings? Is there a way to restore the factory settings?

You may find this hard to believe, but I haven't had a phone in over a year (my last phone was a Samsung Moment). Not quite sure what NFC is, though I saw the icon.

I need this for work e-mail and internet while on trips. And of course, I take lots of photos.

I am aware of silent camera but I'd rather just use the phone's stock camera application.

After you've rooted your phone , go into the Systems folder, and under media there should be a bunch of camera.ogg files...highlight the file..long hold..then change name to end with .bak instead of .ogg...youll have to change several files to make sure all camera nosies are off...any trouble let me know...
