I'm just trying to root the device in order to be able to use it internationally. I'm gifting it to my grandma so I was trying to change the language of everything to Russian. I found the ability to change the "keyboard" to russian but I want everything changed. It's an att tablet so maybe there is an easier way to unlock it and change the language. Thanks again.

Hello, I can not post on the developer forums yet, so I will post what I can here.

I was able to get root access to my Samsung ATT Note 8 (SGH-i467). See attached image.

Thank you;

lyriquidperfection: for the packing tools. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2411243
globula_neagra: for the comments on system.img. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1971249
SkipKelley: for starting me off. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2385265
The XDA Forums: for being available.
chainfire: for obvious reasons. http://www.chainfire.eu/

I will try to put together a complete how to when I can. For now I will link to the image files I created.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR DEVICE NOT WORKING.

Here we go.

1. Download the i467 firmware from http://www.sammobile.com
1a. Extract the main zip file you downloaded. Leave the .tar.md5 files intact. They are the files you select with Odin in steps six (6) and nine (9).

2. Download Odin 3.07 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1738841
2a. Extract and launch Odin.

3. Download the pre-rooted I467UCAMF1 images from SAMSUNG-SGH-I467I467UCAMF1-ROOT.tar
3a. Do not extract or modify this file.

4. Do a factory reset of the device either in system settings or using recovery (volume up). Yes, I have found you must do this.
5. Boot into download mode. (Home + Volume Down + Power)

Step 6 is only required if you accepted the OTA "CAMF2".
6. Use Odin to flash all four files downloaded in step 1. BOOTLOADER, CODE, MODEM and CSC files.
6a. Let the device finish install and boot.
6b. Boot into download mode. (Home + Volume Down + Power)

This is the fun part.
7. Select PDA in Odin and select the file downloaded in step 3. Make sure all other files are not checked. Flash... Odin will say it failed. Yes, don't worry, recovery is still there.
8. Reboot into download mode (Home + Volume Down + Power)
9. Using Odin only flash the BOOTLOADER, MODEM, and CSC from step 1. Do not flash the CODE file or the modified image. In other words, leave PDA unchecked in Odin.
10. Let the device install and reboot.

You should now be able to run SuperSU.

If you want to update to OTA CAMF2 then follow these steps BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE;

Thanks to DanMc85 and others for testing. Also, usernamenotfound wrote instructions in the next post, thank you.

1. Start SuperSU and in the settings enable Survival mode.

2. Connect to a Wifi network. (Thanks aTt)

3. Go to system Settings and select About Device at the bottom of the list.

4. Select Software update on the right.

5. Go through the update process and the device will reboot. You should be at version CAMF2.

[EDIT]

Bootloader = BOOTLOADER...tar.md5
PDA = CODE...tar.md5 - Don't select this in step nine (9). Leave blank.
PHONE = MODEM...tar.md5
CSC = CSC...tar.md5
Since you are having issues rooting... I recommend saferoot. I did it on my ATT Note 8.0 after flashing to fix what was messed up by the original owner. It is small and easy peasy.

It's really annoying, being stuck with a device with no custom ROM. But getting root access does help.

I tried lot of ways mentioned here, but finally King Root did the trick (latest version from the official website, 4.6). I had to retry a few times (it kept saying root failed, try desktop app).

Quick question.

I have this tab with CAMF1 rooted (OTA never worked after rooting). I'd like to move to Kit Kat. What is the best way to go about it? I don't mind wiping everything.

Should I use Samsung Kies to update to stock Kit Kat first (I'm assuming everything will be wiped) and then root using the Kingroot? Would that work?

Thanks

Unless you have AT&T service I don't think you can update to kit kat! I have been trying to find away myself for couple of months with no success!

Seriously? That would explain why I cannot get the ota as I haven't had the data plan active in years (cancelled within a few months)

Man that's messed up. With the termination fee, I ended up paying full price for it and yet cannot get updates? I hate the us carriers

Yea man if you think about it when you receive the ota updates you're downloading it from AT&T servers so of course they are gonna want you to have their service to access the servers!

I already paid full price for it to at&t.

When I buy a Samsung device, I'm not expected to pay Samsung a monthly subscription fee to get the updates.

My old moto x phone hasn't been used on a data plan in a long time but I still get the carrier updates over wifi. There isn't even a sim card in it.

Plus, it's not like the ota is downloaded over the lte connection. It is downloaded over wifi. So it's not a technical issue.

Also, I'm pretty sure the camf1 version that was specific to at&t was on Samsung kies. I did a full reset using that before. That didn't use at&t servers

Yes camf1 was on kies and sammobile but AT&T only releases the original stock software anymore and all updates seem to be ota air! But I'm not saying I'm right tho! Just they wanna keep you from rooting it so it would make it harder to do it if they keep it on their servers! But I don't know!

You're right.

I installed kies and it shows camf1 as the only firmware available.

It looks like at&t created their own update center and named it "at&t update" and it works with ota only with an active at&t sim card

They are a bunch of d%@&s.

I did unlock it though. So I'm gonna get a tmobile sim card and put it in. I'll get 200mb free for life. Screw you at&t

Well, I did it.

Updated to 4.4.2 and rooted it. Here's how:

Warning! This process will wipe user data

Started with 4.1.2 (camf1) rooted with the old method (this update only works if you're on Camf1, if not, use Samsung Kies to restore to Camf1 and start on step 3)

1) Open the folder /system/bin in any root explorer, rename the file ddexe to anything and rename the file ddexe_real to ddexe (restore the original)
2) Open SuperSu and uncheck "enable" under settings
3) Download the camf1 -> 4.4.2 update file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57011317&postcount=8 , save it on the sdcard and change the extension to zip
4) Turn off device
5) Boot into stock recovery (Vol-Up + Home + Power, when you see the Samsung logo, let go of power and keep holding the other two until the green android appears)
6) Select option to apply update from sdcard and select the zip file
7) Once it boots, you will have stock 4.4.2 factory reset
8) Open the browser, go to kingroot.net and download the latest android version, install and run (the exact version I used is NewKingrootV4.65_C134_B241_en_release_2016_01_05_105203.apk), you can elect to remove knox
9) Once it's done, you should have root.
10) Optional: Download the super-sume free app to replace kingroot with Super Su

Voila, no ota or active sim card needed

PS. If the update fails due to other modifications to the system, you can alternatively restore the stock camf1 firmware through Samsung Kies and start from step 3 above

PPS. Screw you AT&T

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, what's the Knox one for? What's the differences?
That's not a stupid question ;)
Knox is the security solution from Samsung. It is supposed to keep the device safe and one of the things is that it causes a lot of problems with rooting. So, the first one is supposed to disable knox and root in the same time.
But what happens is after you root, usually the root permission app (superSU or superuser) will ask you if you want to disable knox and they probably will deactivate it anyway.
So, it won't matter if you use any of them.
Sorry for confusing you...

One more last question, do you recommend Kingroot or saferoot. Which one would be better to use in a AT&T Note 8.0 with 4.4.2 on it?

I'm so sorry, but I don't have the Note 8 any more. I haven't rooted it on 4.4.2. You're have try it yourself. I guess there is a post a couple of pages back explaining a detailed process of rooting on 4.4.2...

I'm not sure if saferoot works on 4.4.2, but Kingroot does the job through an app that runs on the device, no computer needed and is very easy (literally one click and it's done)
