Do phone calls/messaging still work after rooting? I can't seem to get it to work after installing a SIM card. 4g data works fine, but not phone functions. But I never tried with stock firmware, so unsure if this is related to rooting or not.

Update to my old post.... changed SIM card to another provider and my Tab A now works as a phone too.

how do we get OEM unlock for T380XAR1ARB3 android 7.1 build? Cant find unlock in dev options. Try adjusting the date by 7 days but did not work. I want to stay on 7.1.

If anyone has a SM-T380 dm me on XDA me and @andr0idfr3ak have once again ported a highly experimental LineageOS to the SM-T380 we need help with getting more info on the device to make it run properly and we would like if you guys help us run the test alpha builds and help us figure out how to make it work properly we have built a tree that builds a .zip this is no joke this is the real deal; we also were the guys who helped get LineageOS on the SM-T350. If you are interested in being a part of helping us figure it out just drop me a dm on XDA and I'll invite you guys to our private chats. Thanks for hearing me out. We could use more people with this device to figure it all out! ;)

We have an experimental LineageOS build but TWRP Oreo is too old to flash it!.... https://drive.google.com/file/d/10ap1clOxY8SCdg4kQhtE9AuA6cUJg4nQ/view

All build credit goes to @Andr0idFr3ak basically The Freaking iDroid I only provided him information for building.
We need a newer TWRP build and trees if @ashyx would be willing to OpenSource the TWRP trees for the SM-T380 my friend would be willing to upgrade the recovery in order to flash the LineageOS build properly

Method was kindly shown to me by user Mefody in answer to a thread I posted.

Rooting SM-T380/T385 via Magisk Manager APK v.5.5.3 & Magisk 15.2:

    1. Unpack stock firmvare ***.tar.md5 that is currently installed on your tablet (they MUST BE the same!!!).
    2. Then unpack AP-block from step 1 to obtain "boot.img" file.
    3. Download & install on tablet Magisk Manager APK.
    4. Put "boot.img" on SDCARD.
    5. Run Magisk Manager, in setiings set "Patch kernel", then setup the Magisk zip (Wi-Fi must be connected to Internet ).
    6. When asked, point Magisk Manager to place on SDCARD where "boot.img" saved.
    7. After some time You will get "OK".
    8. Find on SDCARD file "patched_boot.img". Copy in on PC & rename to "boot.img". Then archive it to "<any name>.tar".
    9. Set tablet to download mode & flash above tar-file via AP-slot of Odin-programm.
    10. Tablet will reboot & ask to wipe all data to factory's params. Do it... Be noticed, that all passwords, setting, google registry will be wiped.
    11. After wiping & rebooting install Magisk Manager APK again... And YEAH!!! You got root!

Thanks for creating this thread. I used the original thread to root my tab, so seeing this as its own thing will be helpful to a lot of people.

Now all we need is TWRP and we'll have Xposed and custom rom support:cool::cool:

Could you clarify on these two steps?

    1. Unpack stock firmvare ***.tar.md5 that is currently installed on your tablet (they MUST BE the same!!!).
    2. Then unpack AP-block from step 1 to obtain "boot.img" file.

You have to open the stock firmware with an archive manager like WinRar or 7zip. Inside you should find an AP-Block folder. Inside of that should be your boot.img file
