The T350 doesn't have a locked bootloader and neither does OEM UNLOCK unlock the bootloader on any Samsung device.

Now I understand the OEM Unlock toggle doesn't simply unlock a bootloader and is usually used for factory reset protection.

But the question becomes, why do some devices have the toggle and others don't? My T350 doesn't have the OEM Unlock toggle but my T560 does.

And usually rooting or custom recoveries end up need this option to be on. Or in my case I've seen the two situations automatically turn the toggle on by themselves.

Only devices released with Android 5.1.1 or greater have OEM UNLOCK.
The Tab T350 was released with Android 5.0.

Also if a Samsung device is shipped with a locked bootloader it won't have OEM UNLOCK as it would be useless.

Since the T-350 doesn't have the toggle I expected it might be a locked version of the MSM8916. You're point about initially shipping w/5.0.2 installed makes a good point though. And I've seen a few other people talk about the 350 having a locked bootloader.

But on the N920A I know for sure it has the toggle solely for carrier unlocking, as the bootloader is still locked. I understand that the Mobile and Tablet lines do differ a bit though. I don't remember installing 5.0.2 on it however.

My Verizon S6 Edge doesn't have one but shipped with 5.0.2 and has a locked bootloader.

I have a SM-T380. The firmware.mobi site only has the firmware for the SM-T385 model. The only difference is that the T385 model has a sim card.

Will I be okay to flash the T385 firmware onto my T380?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I bought an SM-T585 tab few days ago and I just cant live without root access in Android world! I really need AdAway and Titanium Backup (got paid license) working on this device to make my move from old tab easier and remove some of the bloatware Samsung has added.

I upgraded to latest ( NRD90M.T585XXU2BQK5), went https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:754/firmware:14452 to get the CF-AUTO-ROOT -package and downloaded it. Comes with Odin it seems, I guess I need to get drivers from Samsung site first though?

Now, I started wondering cause this will trip Knox, I guess this will stop OTA upgrades happening in future?
So I need to do upgrades manually with Odin in future (by downloading them from Sammobile -site)?
Is there a way to install Magisk instead of SuperSu? Will that also disable OTA upgrades?

Or should I go all in and just install custom ROM? LineageOS seems to be working on this tab and hopefully gets updated in future by someone. Then I would get rid of all bloat and start building my system like I want.

So many questions and information is bit confusing and scarce...

Yes you right. KNOX tripping in any case at least you will get supersu or magisk. But get update your firmware by Odin not difficult and more reliable then on air. You can install TWRP and then can install different custom roms.

I ended up in the stock recovery and wipe data and factory reset and got out of the failure. I did have a backup so i was able to restore once I reformatted everything.

Will try to root again.

If your having a problem rooting install TWRP then select "WIPE/Format Data", reboot bootloader and run CF Autoroot. You should have root after that :)

I'm looking to purchase the Galaxy Tab A (T580) in the near future. My main reason for rooting is to allow for Nandroid backups/restores on TWRP. Are there any gotchas that I should be aware of? Some specific questions might be:
1. is the bootloader unlocked?
2. can OTA updates be received without unrooting and returning to stock?
3. Is the warranty voided by rooting?
4. Assuming the tablet comes with Android 6.0 does it make sense to upgrade to 7.0 before rooting?

Thanks in advance

I had the same questions when I bought mine. There was no problems rooting EXCEPT when I soft bricked installing twrp using the app. Install TWRP FIRST (ODIN) then formate data, you should not have any problems rooting after that. I used CF Autoroot but hind site says I should have tried Magisk.

This is old method, not actual now. Please don't use it. Try to install magisk via TWRP.

For owners SM-T585 and SM-T580 : you can use this method https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/themes/mod-twrp-odin-t3650215

Hi folks . Dear @Chainfire update your CF-Auto-Root base and now we get opportunity to have root with the simplest method ! It works now on 6.0 and 7.0 stock firmwares . Sorry but knox is tripped .
    Now this works on SM-T580 , SM-T585
Complete list you can see on https://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ .

    HOW INSTALL :

    BASIC INSTRUCTIONS
All downloads contain .tar.md5 files flashable in ODIN as AP.

Make sure your device is in ODIN download mode (usually you can get there by holding VolDown+Home+Power when the device is turned off), then start the included Odin file, press the AP button, select the .tar.md5 file, and click Start. You can find more detailed instructions and assistance at XDA.

A modified recovery and cache partition will be flashed, which will install (only) SuperSU, then clean-up the cache partition and re-flash the stock recovery.

For the root to work, the device must reboot into recovery. Most devices will do this automatically after flashing these files, but in case that does not happen, please boot into recovery manually.

After it, TWRP is installed via the official application https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.twrp.twrpapp&hl= very easy.

    DOWNLOADS:

    For 7.0 OS :
    SM-T580
    SM-T585
    For 6.0 OS :
SM-T585 Not links , only my archiv
    SM-T580 https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:752

    Update
Dear @Chainfire updated his thread CF-AUTO-ROOT and moved his repository to the new Firmware mobi site. Now you can configure your cf-auto-root for a specific firmware. More details and exactly on the site itself.

    New links from firmware.mobi
    For all OS.
    For SM-T580
    For SM-T585
Guide is inside archive. Read necessarily.

    Hi,

    T580, 7.0, kernel 3.18.14-12479655, build NRD90M. T580UEU2BQL1

    I have enabled OEM unlock.

I downloaded CF-Auto-Root-gtaxlwifi-gtaxlwifixx-smt580.tar.md5, Run Odin 3.10.6, Put the md5 file in AP slot. The Options tab has Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time enabled by default. Pressed Start. The process went through and I can see the CF Auto Root log in the screen. When it finished, it rebooted. But I got the verification error below

    Verification failed

Unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all your data.

At the bottom is the reset button. I really don't want to lose all the data. Is there any way to recover?

Or is there any way to connect to the tablet to retrieve some file? There is just one folder I really need but it needs root.

I tried to boot into recovery. It shows a logo and "installing system update". A few seconds later the logo tilted and says "no command" and it entered into recovery.

    At the top:
    Android Recovery
    samsung/gtaxlwifixx/gtaxlwifi
7.0/NRD90M/T580XXU2BQE7 ---- this is different from my build version T580UEU2BQL1
    user/release-keys

    At the bottom
Successfully verify for dmverify hash tree
    E:failed to find /misc partition

I wiped the cache and rebooted. Same verification error.

I then used https://desktop.firmware.mobi/device:752 to configure an CF-AUTO-ROOT package, download it, and Odin flash it again. When it reboot, I can see the red line on top:
    RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING
It did not go through the script and the device boots normally with the verification error.

    Please help

    Thanks
Flash the stock recovery from firmware.mobi to get your device booting then install twrp and root with magisk.
