My mate 9 (L29c636b172) is well rooted with this procedure; https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-how-to-root-mate-9-decrypt-data-t3569986 (PHH'S SUPERUSER).
everything works fine but I need to change to SUPERSU to give root permission to GMD GESTURE CONTROLL app (modified in System app to work on huawei phones). With PHH'S I cannot get them...
which procedure should I follow exactly, starting from this configuration? TWRP is 3.0.2-2
thanks
Flash this stock boot image in TWRP: https://mega.nz/#!hpsUkaZb!-8iEZTKUPSUVEhFV-hrTRRyvpNMA5U_0BlP7y-vJMKM (L29C636B172 boot image).
Then flash this: https://mega.nz/#!81lxgbBY!EN4mJQfKScQG34Wny3iIlB5EgVVvu9bkeciLSUHzm5s (If you followed the guide by eddmecha you are decrypted)

Thanks a lot!!!!! Yes I followed his guide but for SUPEROOT instead of SUPERSU. So I just have to flash these 2 zip, no need to factory reset or something else?
I was thinking to wipe all from TWRP and follow again the procedure of eddmecha but the one for SUPERSU (the second one in his first post) but may be would not work...
I don' know.

It's basically the same as the guide. You're only skipping decrypting as you already did that.

So just flash boot image to boot partition, then flash SuperSU zip.

In TWRP, tap Install - Install image - select boot image (BOOT_L29C636B172.img) - select boot partition.
I did the flash but something went wrong; after rebooting (took 10 minutes) some settings and apperance went lost, all account disappear, root seems lost, in TWRP the folder sdcard is full of files with strange names (letters and number) and nothing else, so i cannot try to flash again from sdcard. I moved the the supersu zip file in external sd and flash it again but nothing change and root is not there...
what should I do?
I was thinking about repeting the complete procedure of Eddmecha but I don't know what to do before (wipe.... uninstall root app.....?)

Well, did you flash SuperSU that I linked in the previous post after boot image?
If you lost root it means you probably rebooted after flashing just boot image, as it re-encrypted (that's why it took long to boot). Or it gave errors when you flashed supersu .

Anyway, to re-decrypt, do eddmechas guide again but flash the supersu I linked as it's updated.

I flashed both your files but may be something where wrong when I flash supersu. I have a nadroid complete backup (BOOT, SYSTEM,...etc) made through TWRP just a few days ago. Do you think is ok if I restore thi backup through TWRP by the moment and try to flash again boot image and supersu zip that you provide? would it work?
thanks

When I flash your supersu zip after the boot image, the phone automatically reboot after 3 seconds during the flashing and during booting the Huawei logo disappears and it appears an "android" written logo until the boot ends.
I did again the entire eddmecha procedure flashing his Supesu zip and manually reboot after the whole flash but Android logo is still there during boot and after all camera app disappear. What should I do? I restore my complete nandroid backup but still "android" on boot and no camera app. Almost all the folder in internal memory are empty...
Consider that I have a complete (boot, system, data....etc etc) backup to restore also in only some of the partition...
thanks for helping!

It's weird, because it should not reboot during install. That only happens if you flash the official SuperSU 2.82 when you're on a firmware before B182. This is using PHH to install directly to ramdisk instead of installing SuperSU to an image and mounting it as a loop device.

I'd try with flashing public and hw zips for B172 first, as you probably haven't yet.

Public: http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...74/f1/full/public/update_data_full_public.zip

Hw: http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...f1/full/hw/spcseas/update_full_hw_spcseas.zip

Flash the public zip first. Both may give errors but they install just fine. See if that fixes camera.
If not, consider updating to the latest C636 using developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Or try firmware finder.
Or restore your backup.

I'll try to flash PUBLIC and Hw again but I did it already . ( I did the complete eddmecha procedure ) should I always Format Data in TWRP before the flash? why do I get the "android" written logo during booting and no camera after restoring my COMPLETE backup with TWRP? isn't it strange?

You don't need to format data again if you're decrypted. It's only needed the first time. Unless you should encrypt again of course.

What partitions exactly are you restoring? And was that a backup you made in an older build of your firmware?

I restored all the partitions. The backup was of the same firmware, just 2 weeks ago.

The backup was made after rooting, root was SUPEROOT PHH'S . everything was working fine. Just couldn't get root permission for GMD as system app.

Now, every time that I try to flash something the flash goes on but after a few lines I get a red “unable to mount storage” message. I’m flashing from external sd card because I format data just before flashing. I complete the flash (superroot, public, hw ) any way an reboot. I didn’t flash boot image again.
After rebooting I get very few app, still no camera and no file manager. These and some more app are substitute from android green icons with strange name (com.android…. or something similar). No root but I didn’t download phh’s app…
Camera is not visible even in settings/app list but the message I get (in italian) is something like…“the app camera has stopped working in strange way. Reboot it” but if I press OK nothing happen.
I then restored then my complete backup (boot, system…everything) and the restore was completed with no errors. After reboot root is ok and phone is like 2 weeks ago but still no camera app and I get same message when I do the gesture I that I did set to open camera (no icon is visible anywhere) . still during boot I have the “android” written logo this looks strange to me because I restored even boot. What could I do to get to a complete working configuration ? thanks in advance!

could someone help? couldn't find a way to restore camera app (after restoring my backup with TWRP everyting lokks fine but camera is not there).
the situation is:
- impossible to do factory reset from phone settings (FR just doesn't start and any message popup appears).
- format data from TWRP works but I get few app and no camera.
- I repeat the eddmecha root procedure but still no camera and during flash I get a few red “unable to mount storage” message.
- I tryed to flash your boot image and even a different one that I found from virtyx but still no camera and no factory reset available.
-even after flashing vityx boot.img of after any restore of my full backup (boot included) I get the ANDROID write logo during boot

My Mate 9 (MHA-L29C185B188) is rooted with PHH's Superuser, Twrp installed and Data Encrypted.
Can you please guide me which stock boot image to flash and which magisk to use while staying encrypted !

First update TWRP to 3.1.1 if you haven't already: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/recovery-unofficial-twrp-huawei-mate-9-t3515617
Next, download this boot (L29C185B188) and flash: https://mega.nz/#!xO4HADrK!NUtjeDvVDZbiu5fYaijSUiHOviBxxoKD95n-WpncJw4
And then Magisk 14.5: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589

You won't have to modify that Magisk as it doesn't remove the file encryption flag (Magisk 14 and a few version prior to it did remove encryption flag correctly).
If you get problems with Safetynet install (Install using Magisk Manager) this prop fix by @mankindtw: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2D9GdWntw69NmdJVmhJaWNEOVU/view
I would actually install it even if you don't get safetynet problems at first, they usually come.
