Root the Nexus with ROM Links *Updated*

Now that's strange...are you rooted? I suspect you're not...

Why don't you follow the instructions here

Download the "Superboot for ERE27 with himem enabled" one and follow the instructions on that page. (Again, i am assuming you did nothing to your phone so far hence it's still ERE27 ie stock, to confirm, go to about phone in settings)

With that done, try going into recovery again and see if the recovery img has changed to the Amon-Ra one...

If not, just do the previous steps that you did earlier with fastboot flash recovery etc etc and again boot into recovery to see if it's up and going.

Side note : If after all these you're rooted and have flashed recovery 1.6.2, make sure you do NOT try to flash the radio images and only flash the custom roms as you probably need to read up more on ADB,flashing roms etc otherwise you'll end up bricking your phone

Now I know it is rooted - I could install N1 torch.

So I have now succesfully unlocked the bootloader and rooted.

But recovery? I have nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip on my sd card...

... but when I go to bootloader -> recovery, I still get the triangle with an android-figure ??

I'm now stuck at the following steps because the links provided do not go to files any longer:

2. put both the radio and update zips on your sdcard

3. power down your phone then power on while holding trackball

4. Use volume keys and power button to get to bootloader then to recovery
(Note: For a shortcut download a terminal emulator from the market and type the following:
su <enter>
reboot recovery<enter>
)

5. Go to flash zip from sdcard

6. Flash radio update zip first

7. After that is complete and you've restarted when it told you to do so.

8. Flash update zip

9. To get root again simply reflash the nexus-addon-0.1-signed.zip (instructions above.

I want to make sure i'm totally up to date and rooted so i can move forward with installing a new, full rom.

My firmware is 2.1-update1
My baseband is 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
My Kernel is 2.6.29-bacon1
My Build Number is ERE27

Based on this, it doesn't seem like i *NEED* to do the ERE27 update, but i have no idea about the radio, and again, the links just don't work

I'm looking to install Cyanogen's ROM on this.

If unsure of the radio, don't do anything about since messing around wrongly with the radio is the ONLY way to brick your phone and unless you're based in the States where the old radio is giving you 3g issues, there's really no need to flash it...but all personal preference really...

just go to the cyanogen's 5.4.0.1 thread and download the latest rom and google bits and flash them both and you're good to go...

you do have Amon Ra's recovery right?

Are you sure you are typing the correct command?

fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.6.2.img

If you miss the standalone recovery before the filename, it won't know where to flash the file to.

I got up to date on that. I am in the states, and i am having some weird issues with my radio...mostly that if i cover the bottom of my phone, i lose signal.

That is an issue with most N1s, especially the first batches of them. Covering the antenna on the bottom of your phone will drop a bar or two (at least). The new radios have helped generally, but they haven't changed how sensitive the radio is to being blocked by your hand covering it.

is there an easy way to find out if i need the radio update?

Not really. If you have no issues with the one you are using now (meaning you have good 3G and don't have any issues with reception) other then when you cover it with your hand, there really isn't a reason to upgrade. I still have issues with 3G going to Edge and back so I have been upgrading the radios as they come out. I personally don't see an issue with flashing radios... you just have to be incredibly patient and make sure you don't pull out your battery because it doesn't look like its going anywhere.

So its all based on your current reception. If you have issues, flash the newer radios. If not, its not necessary at this time.

I hate to ask, but what version of the recovery did you download. I mean, did you download 1.7.0?

this might be a dumb question just got the nexus one do i have to flash the amon recovery image or can i just unlock the bootloader and root the phone?. For the moment i just want to install the htc sense keyboard. What is the purpose of the Recovery image? Also if i root and unlock will i receive the ota updates as long as i dont flash a custom rom?

After Following the link to Flash Amons RA Recovery Image I noticed that there's 2 versions: one is for CyanogenMOD and the other is the regular version.
Also one of the pre requirements is to flash superboot, which has it own set of instructions..
Can you guys help me a little on this step?

I am having trouble getting my phone to connect. Whenever I type fastboot.exe devices, nothing pops up in the cmd telling me the phone is connected. I went into the bootloader, still nothing.,=
I have tried different USB ports on my computer, and still no luck.
I am running windows vista 64 bit.

After some more searching, I found my problem. I had to install the drivers.

After I get done step 2 my phone isnt recognized can someone help me im using cmd.exe command window also windows vista if thats any help. thanks
