Somewhere in Europe
In the OP it states that one method is to place the RAH TWRP zip in ext.sd card and flash from existing Android/xoom recovery--is this still good to go--with mz604 International version.
I have problems running ADB SDK stuff from my PC..

Oops--wrong thread--sorry.....duh!

unable to download universal root

This was also tested on a 4G Xoom and is working 100%.

as stated by the title, i can not for the life of me download the universal root. it goes to the website, but even if i save target as, it will not download it for some reason. if you could pm me for an alternate download site that would be greatly appreciated.

Got as far as unlocking it, now trying to root it. Can't root it. Tried Framaroot, didn't bother with vRoot. Tried Kingroot.

Every single walk through for rooting or putting a custom ROM on for me has never worked in the way described. There is ALWAYS a point where what I am told I will see or need to press isn't there. I tried following the instructions in this one. I found the files I think I need as all the old links are dead.

Anyway, installing ADB and Fastboot. All you need to do is download the Android platform tools zip file and unzip it. No installation necessary, no need for Android Studio.

I then found that once I have ADB and Fastboot on the PC, I need to unlock the device. What was a bit of a surprise was that it does a factory reset during this bit. To unlock it just open a command prompt, connect your Xoom up and from where you put ADB and Fastboot, type:

fastboot oem unlock

Agree to the guff that it says. Then wait. It takes about a minute. You will now need to reconfigure the Xoom to get it back up and running as normal. Then you can go about rooting it. However, having tried 2 of the 3 methods of rooting, none worked, so I'm a bit stuffed at the moment. Anyone any ideas or up to date links that give working information?

Ta.

I have found that I still have a copy of the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file. I just used it on my Xoom and it seems to be working fine. I also have the CWM recovery file that can be pushed via adb. I will post both files here. I have been without my Xoom for a while as it was on loan to my daughter... just got it back and wiped / loaded with Jellybean. It's amazing how much stuff we forget in a few years time! ... anyway the files are below...

Its been a few years since i have root'ed and installed new roms but by following the guide i should be able to do it. Only problem i have is the links to the files seam to be dead. Does anyone have the files and what rom would you recommend for the xoom? If anyone has any tips that would help please pass them on. Like i said its been a few years :)

    Universal Xoom Root

Thats right, this method will work for any xoom on any update - Including future updates!!!

Note: Unlike the similar method floating around on here, this also gives you an unsecured boot image.

-- Please Note: this thread is still a work in process and has been sped up by the arrival of the 4g Xooms --

Current requirements: adb & fastboot have been setup and you have an external sdcard for your xoom.

    1. Setting up adb & fastboot
Coming Soon! (If you want to write this section for me and pm me it, thats fine !)

    2. Downloading the rooting-update zip file.
Download the zip file from here.
Now place this on your external sdcard. - Sorry this is a requirement at the moment, like I said this is a bit rushed.
    3. Flashing recovery
    1. Download this Recovery image.
    2. If your device is locked, now is a good time to unlock it.
    Code:
    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot oem unlock
    fastboot reboot

    3. Flash recovery
    Code:
    adb reboot bootloader
    fastboot flash recovery recovery-Tiamat-R4c-100611-1150-cwm.img
Once you have verification on your device that this has been flashed, reboot your device by holding volume up + power.
Then 3 seconds after you see the Motorola logo, hit volume down. You should now see "Android Recovery" in the top left corner. Hit volume up to boot into recovery.

    4. Flashing the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file.
If you're in clockwork mod recovery you can continue (This recovery image will say it is clockwork mod) . If you're not looking at clockwork mod, then you need to repeat step 3 again.

In cwm, go into "install zip from sdcard" -> "Choose zip from sdcard", then select the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file you downloaded.
Note: use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select

Reboot your device and then welcome to your rooted device!

This was also tested on a 4G Xoom and is working 100%.

I've updated the zip file with a ICS compatible su binary.
I haven't tested personally but it should work.
