Root without having to unlock bootloader

I'm eager to see how the Lollipop update comes through with root.
I haven't rooted mine yet, cause I'm just now learning about the root for DS3 capability, and wanting to see if itll remove itself or cause any issues for the update, or just work and still keep root.


(just got my tablet a couple days ago)

In the past I have always used towelroot to root the Shield, but as of the latest update it appears to be patched. If you want to root now you will be required to unlock the bootloader and lose everything you've ever done on the shield, data wise.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
