Same here, I have tried lots of different methods but none are working at the moment.

There is an opened issue on Github for Magisk, but it has been quiet for the past few weeks. Feel free to add more comments and information into the issue, perhaps this will help someone over there to figure out how to make it work.

If you really want root, you could just run a GSI, a rom with root. This would involve unpacking the super.img.and repacking with the gsi system.img.

GSI sounds interesting. I only need root so that I can move all the apps along with its data from my old device.

Would it be possible to flash the GSI with root, and then later flash back the stock rom on top and keep the data (I am ok with losing root once app data has been copied across)? Or is this messy and not recommended?

Which GSI image have you tried in particular with this device by the way?
