You are obviously running stock firmware so the carriers control the volte on your phone. The best is too flash your carriers stock firmware. I don’t know who your carrier is. The only way I know too manually enable it os too use an activity launcher application and find the imssettings app but on android 8 this requires root access too launch apps that are blocked from launching so I don’t know what too tell you
Yes. With stock firmware, root disappears (((. In any case, thanks. You gave me hope for the further use of this phone, but apparently not fate. I'll think of something for the future.

This is a root method for the s7 and s7 edge on bootloader 11 (B) phones using the combination firmware. I really dont think it will do much but I will post it and maybe someone will do something with it
Downloads

COMBINATION_VZW_FA60_G930PUCUBATA1_REV-11-B_01-13-23.tar.7z

Odin3_v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.7z

S7 Edge Files Found Here

Instructions
This will repartition phone to be like S7 flat Verizon models and Verizon S7 edge models to make things more uniform. This will not affect the phone.

1. Download and unzip COMBINATION_VZW_FA60_G930PUCUBATA1_REV-11-B_*-*-*.tar.7z.
Inside is a HEROQLTE_USA_VZW.pit. Load this pit file in the Pit Tab in Odin and the COMBINATION_VZW_FA60_G930PUCUBATA1_REV-11-B_*-*-*.tar.mds in the BL slot in Odin. Under the options tab in Odin select nana erase and make sure repartition is check and then flash

2. Phone will reboot twice when done and on second reboot you wipe data and then reboot. Once phone is booted you will have a limited combo rom you just need to copy rom from post 2 too phone and reboot too safestrap. You can do this by using the reboot app and click reboot recovery or by manually rebooting too recovery from powered off phone hold power up + volume up + home button till phone boots and you see recovery rebooting. The other apps are not needed unless for some reason safestrap doesn't work then Flashfire is included to do the flashing

3. Proceed to Post 2

@jrkruse Thanks so much for all this, I got Echo running on my newly purchased US VZW S7 Flat. It runs perfectly, There are no issues, and all features work, got TWRP, root, custom rom - all with a locked bootloader - I can't believe it!

I failed at first, could not complete first boot in Echo after installing it right after the first combo firmware stage, then second attempt I flashed the VZW system image first, then the Echo, but then I had no 4G data or phone service in Echo - the trick was to flash the BCTA1 USVZW Samsung firmware with ODIN first, boot it, skip all through start wizard, get sim registered and all connections working, then go through the whole install process in the OP, the combo firmware, wipe data, the system image, then Echo ROM, then the SuperSU zip, then wipe data, everything works great now - hope that helps someone with a new S7.

This worked for me thanks. Still have some tweaks to do but successful.

-Flashable system image vzw worked for me but there was no pit file that I could find. It seemed work anyway.
-There is no reference to system_custom.zip in posts 1 and 2 but was discussed in later posts. What is this?
-ASOP zips don't download. I get an error message.

jrkruse mentioned something about the PIT file needed for correct partitioning? It is inside the .tar.md5 file inside the zip, 7-zip works to open the .md5 and extract the .pit out, but if you have no issues, I guess it's good without.

I think the system_custom.zip was the old version of the VZW system image, but I'm not 100%.

I couldn't download the AOSPs either, but TouchWiz especially Echoe ROM is so much better anyway, just my opinion.

I'm just relieved that I don't have to suffer with Samsung and VZW bloat and crappy uncustomizable OS, no Xposed mods, with no way to restore my Titanium backups from my old retired phones.

OH, some advice if you're installing Echoe, make sure you INCLUDE the Samsung TTS (text to speech) in Aroma, or else you will not be able to enable components in Accessibility - I left out TTS 'cause I don't use it, then I installed Apex Launcher Classic and wanted to use the swipe down on Home screen feature to open notifications, and was prompted to enable Apex in Accessibility settings, and I could not do so because Accessibility settings page would crash with error toast mentioning missing TTS component. I installed Echoe with the SamTTS on, and the Accessibility problem was gone.

Well after successfully rooting my phone using this thread I decided I didn't like the Android 6.0 (Marshmallow?) and tried to go back and reinstall the Android 8.0/Oreo. I ended up bricking the phone (got stuck on boot up and I could only get the upload screen with power+home+volume up or down). So I just left it on in the upload screen and let the battery completely die. Then recharged it and was able to get to the download screen again. Repeated the above and got it back. So I think I'll leave well enough alone. Marshmallow it is. I really didn't need to root the phone. I only did it as an experiment/learning exercise since the phone was retired. I learned that these phones are a total cluster duck. I'm a retired EE and used to program automated machines and robots for a living. That was way easier (and it was NOT easy). lol.

I'm sure if you get the latest official Oreo firmware for your variant and flash with Odin, it will be back to working stock Oreo.

That's what I thought I had and it ended up bricking my phone trying to load it in Odin. Then I went to try and download in in Frija and Samkey. Neither would let me download it. Frija would lock up trying to searching for the firmware and Samkey wanted me to pay for a Premium account. So I was not able to download the latest official firmware for my variant, and I'm stuck with Marshmallow. Not a big deal as it's just my retired phone for experimenting (also use it to surf the web and email on WiFi only). Another interesting thing is I left my phone charging overnight and it reached 100%. I thought it was supposed to only go to 80%, and it did for first couple days, but then it mysteriously went to 100% charging overnight.

Mine charges to 80% always on Echoe. I have the SM-G930V US VZW variant.
If you can't flash official Sam firmware with Odin, there may be something wrong with your installed firmware or internal NAND. If it were my phone, I would be worried about that. Are you sure you have the right files for your variant, like from https://updato.com/download-samsung-galaxy-s7-firmware/sm-g930f/ , the right Odin like the one in the OP, a reliable cable, not just some cheap charging cable, but a good quality USB data transfer cable?
I flashed the Combo firm, then VZW image, then Echoe, then my mobile data didn't work, no phone or sms - so I downloaded the Sam VZW Oreo firm with version number that matched the last 5 digits shown in the combo firm and that fixed everything, and I had no trouble flashing it in Odin either.

updato is not working either. Keeps saying it sent an email after I sign up. No email in inbox, spam, or trash. None of these websites work for me.

Edit 1: updato is now letting me download. 2.9GB at 80kb/s. 10 hours. lol. I wonder if they will conveniently cause a problem in the download when it's almost done?

Edit 2: So are you saying to not use the "Odin v3.12.3 ZIP file" that updato is telling me to download with my Oreo build number G930VVRSBCTC1? I should use the Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD instead? For someone just getting into this, all this stuff is very confusing. And I have a software background.

I am stuck.
*Previous firmware: G935VVRSBCTC1
*No issues flashing pit file and repartition and erasing nand.
*No issues extracting the VZW combo file (which ends up as .tar.md5)

"Once phone is booted you will have a limited combo rom you just need to copy rom from post 2 too phone and reboot too safestrap." This is where I convert and copy the 1.08gb 7z file from pc, to the phone. Which ends up as [system_g930_vzw_10-30-22.img] @ 5.29gb

"Flashable System Images
This need to by unzipped and images copied to phone
Everything in .7z is stuff that needs unzipped
system_g930_vzw_10-30-22.7z" This is the required system Image I chose to start with

"
Directions

1. You must be on one of the above flashable system images first
2. Flash in safestrap or flashfire"
It instantly fails and says the image is too large

"Wipe data in safestrap
unzip install system image in safestrap."
I have tried as many different combos as I can think of when wiping data without success.

"Directions
1. choose above rom and uzip to get the system image and copy the system image to phone.

2. In safestrap choose install and at bottom of screen choose image and locate the system.img and flash too system."

I feel like I did the process correctly. But I cannot proceed to load the Echoe Aroma rom.

thank you. I feel like a dumbass. I guess between both threads that look identical, I dont know what point I made it off the s7edge page and back to the s7flat page..

    lets see what this do.....

Oh I did much worse than being off only one digit. After I successfully rooted mine I decided I didn't like Android 6.0 and wanted to go back to the stock Android 8.0. I used the complete wrong stock VZW firmware and just about bricked my phone. Luckily after letting the battery go completely dead I was able to get back to the download screen. Then got the correct firmware for my phone and all was well. Messing with these phones is not straight forward. I appreciate the OP for putting this all together.

I have copy of System_Custom, Will provide Mega download link

I have not rooted my phone yet. Odin always fails for me.

I think this means I am using an old firmware file (anti-downgrade measure). The phone states software is dated 3/17/20 and the firmware I am using is dated 3/20/20. I am trying to flash without using the bootloader file. Is the real problem
is that I have bootloader 11 (B). I think this means no root unless I have marshmallow combination rom. I guess I cannot install a LineageOS rom since there is no twrp for 11/B?
