Just wanted to say thanks, I successfully rooted my s8 gen2 standard today using these instructions and the posted firmware file. All just so I can use Tasker to turn the volume down two clicks when switching to the radio since it's noticeably louder than spotify.

I downloaded the s8 gen2 premium file from a few posts up, and followed the instructions from the first post. I had to Google how to sign the zip, but finally figured it out. Once I had the zip signed I put it on a micro sd card and put it in the s8 and cross my fingers.

I go the exact HU and im about to try it - just to clear.

1) Uzip the posted file a few post files back(Update-File-for-ATOTO-S8-GEN2). This creates a folder with all the files extracted.
2) Find the boot.img and patch with Magik Manager -either with phone or HU
3) *This is where i am confused with the instructions*. Do you just overwrite boot.img in the extracted folder with the patched boot.img, then rezip? Or do you create a new file called 6315_1Update.zip with just the patched boot.img?
4) Follow instructions to signed the new .zip.
5) Copy MicroSD and take it to HU and have it autoupdate.

Just need to be clear on 3)

Thanks!

Yes you need to override boot.img. No need to extract / compress, you can simply drag and drop your updated boot.img using winrar for example.

Check the original post with developer.zip containing all the instructions for Joying units.

I just got the same unit and so far is really happy with it, but would like to root it as I am facing a bit of an issue with really loud audio due to my car having a bose sound system. Read rooting allows to turn down the global gain

I dont have access to a rooted android device and I can't really figure out if there is another option then for patching the stock update with magisk. Would I be able to use the file you created for your unit or is it necessary to build everything from scratch per device ?

Centerton, Ar
I'm at a bit of a lose with rooting my S8.
Using the files provided in the original thread I have patched the boot img with magisk, signed the zip and ran the update on the head unit.
Installed SuperSU and root checker
When verifying root I get the below message.
Thoughts from the group?

First attempt at something myself (following Joying instructions - so they did all the work, really)

    Instructions:
    - two files required (6521_1.zip and 6521update)
    - copy onto an empty MicroSD card
    - put into your head unit and hope it works

NO WARRANTY. I AM A VILLAGE IDIOT. I TRIED TO FLASH THE JOYING ZIP AND IT BROKE MY RADIO UNTIL I REFLASHED THE ATOTO ZIP! I COULDN'T EVEN GET ADB WORKING.

    <stop> I GUARANTEE NOTHING <stop!>

    What I did:
    1) Patched the boot.img using Magisck (using my phone)
    2) Added to the S8 Ultra zip (download from dropbox if you get into trouble)
    3) Used SignApkv2.jar (Java8) to sign the zip file (avoiding locked bootloader issues)
    4) Copied the updated 6521_1.zip file into Atoto's firmware unzipped MicroSD and reflashed with patched boot.img
    5) Installed the Magisck v7/22.01 onto my head unit
    5) Installed kali linux and su into root

Copy to your own Cloud first (for link longevity):

Compatible Firmware Versions: S8 Ultra (whatever firmware came with it, there haven't been any firmware updates)
    Unknown Compatibility: S8 Premium/Pro/Other (maybe?)
