I rooted my Maxx back in March using the "Chinese Ebay" technique (Android 4.4 19.5.3 obakemaxx). I wanted to root so I could take advantage of my unlimited data plan by using my phone as a hotspot. It's been smooth sailing until yesterday, when randomly the "powering off" notification would pop up on the screen followed by the phone rebooting into TWRP 2.6.3.1. This happens repeatedly after about two minutes after powering the phone on. Of course I did not create a backup prior to this issue, so I cant use anything as a restore point. I want to flash the new firmware release but, based on some research I've done, I'm I afraid I will end up losing root and my ability to use my phone as a hotspot. Does anyone out there know what may be causing this reboot issue, and if so is there a fix (hopefully an easy one :)). Also, thanks for all your support, this forum and it's users are awesome!

Do you mean you unlocked the bootloader using the Chinese eBay method? If so your bootloader will stay unlocked, so you can flash the update and just root again by installing twrp. You need to rsd to stock first for the Ota and have stock recovery.
