This is a complete noob on rooting and unlocking bootloaders talking right now, so could someone help me or link me to any place with detailed steps on how to do it on 5.1 TN7? I haven't rooted any device at all yet and I wouldn't have even thought of doing it if it wasn't for the random lags and general heating issues/battery drain my tab is suffering after updating to lollipop. This tab is kinda like my device to experiment with games and apps that I normally wouldn't use on my phone so since the warranty already got over a few months back, I thought now would be a good time to step into the vast rooting waters. There are multiple articles on how to root TN7 but most of them are for KK and before. I can't seem to find any recent ones with detailed steps for 5.1.

Refer to this threads 3rd reply http://forum.xda-developers.com/nvidia-tegra-note-7/help/how-downgrade-lollipop-t3212647 After you download Super Tool and start it up, it is pretty easy to unlock the bootloader or root your device. As far as the heating/battery drain issues are concerned, rooting won't exactly help you unless you roll back to KitKat since that is unfortunately, the only possible solution yet. Its an easy process and rolling back to KitKat is definitely worth it so don't think a lot about it ;)

After doing some research and the wide availability of information on the internet, I was able to root it. :D The first thing I did is disable most of the Nvidia services like Tegra services which was mentioned in another thread on here and now most of the micro lags and battery drain problems are pretty much nonexistant! The tab is so zippy now, it's such a joy to use.

The only thing missing is a more efficient custom kernel for TN7 that works on 5.1 and this device'll be amazing (the stock kernel seems to be the highest battery consuming component according to GSam right now).

Tegra 4 is just a fairly power hungry SoC. Those A15 cores need to be fed! Combine that with the smaller battery of a 7" tablet and the battery life ends up not so great.

There is a custom kernel for 4.4 Kitkat that undervolts the SoC and the RAM. It might get a bit better battery life but I haven't used it enough. If you leave it at its stock overclocked settings it certainly will not have better battery life though. He has the max CPU clock at around 2.2 GHz and that definitely increases power consumption considerably if you do anything more than sit idle.

The other day, on a long trip, I had the Note out with randomly watching videos and going in and out between apps and a few light games. Then after reaching home, I switched on the wifi and downloaded app updates and such. The screen was pretty much on the whole time during this. But it registered a pretty impressive (considering the tab's recent....history) 4 hours SOT and stood for about 15 hour or so of total time between unplugging the device at 100% and recharging again at 5%.
