Rooting Vankyo Z10 Tablet (Android 9)? (And maybe flashing custom rom?)

I just got a Vankyo Z10 tablet running Android 9, and I'm looking to root it (and/or maybe install a custom rom depending on what is available.)

I have already enabled developer options as well as USB debugging and OEM unlocking, (the latter being possible suggesting I should be good to go to do whatever rooting/flashing I want to do.)

I have looked at using Magisk to root, but the guides I'm seeing require a "custom recovery", and a quick google search found a "Vankyo Z10 TWRP Recovery." Will this do the job?

Beyond this if someone could point me in the direction of what custom roms I could use with this tablet, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Did you ever have success rooting these tablets. I have 5+ of them and am trying to do the same thing...

Yes I did. Sadly mine eventually bricked or something. Right now it won't turn on. I have gotten the back cover off and de-soldered re-soldered the battery but it still won't charge. I have testers and the battery does have a charge. I can't figure out why it won't turn on.

Anyway these tablets use MTK chips so to root it you use this:

The trick is to setup Magisk (an older version I think) to run the rooting script on boot up. The vast majority of the info is in the thread I linked above.

It would be nice if I could figure out why mine won't boot anymore....
