Anyone ever considered if it's all just an april 1'st fool?
Yes, its not

Apr 4 2010, 22:21 A quick update - I will have extremely limited Interne access for the next 2 weeks, so there won't be any further progress from me on rooting the Legend unt I am fully back online on the 20th April. The current Legend root status is that I DO have roo access in a method that I believe can be replicated o other devices (I have a retail device and i've had no issues), however HTC have implemented some rathe sneaky protection methods that prevent writing of data to key partitions (boot, recovery, system etc.) which prevent us from enabling custom ROMs etc. Aside from hoping an engineering SPL (and a way to flash it!) emerges, I do have a number of approache I plan to try that I hope will unlock the last piece of the Legend puzzle, so don't give up hope just yet... progress IS being made.

yep. and by thursday for the legend.
Those who appreciate his work I recommend a donation.
I know he deserves it.

note, from the desire guide:

The root process will...

* flash your device with a new, generic 1.15.405.4 based ROM that has Superuser access
* show you how to enter the recovery image in future, allowing you to flash update zips

The root process will NOT...

* enable you to flash your device with a custom recovery image that can be launched easily by just holding down the volume down button when powering on
* enable you to have write access to the /system partition in normal use of the device

What is the biggest advantages of 'rooting' my device?

I understand you can then load custom ROMS, but if I am on 2.1 now, what more can I do by rooting?

Still great news for the future though, Thanks Paul!

root update

Paul uploaded a root method.
However, this still does not work with latest update 1.30 if you want root now, you should not update to latest firmware.
