May well be true. But that's totally expected as Z was launched way back early last year, its past the 18month support.
Having said that, we can't overlook the fact that the Z is one of the best supported devices by Sony. Think about it. (4.1.2,4.2.2,4.3,4.4.4)

To be honest this phone is quite old now, so not such a big problem. They have given us a lot of good updates, and the phone works great as it is. You cant expect companies to update old devices. Plus all these new Android versions are very similar and not much differences since JellyBean..

I agree that Sony have provided excellent support for this device. Way above my expectations, if I'm honest.

It's no real shock if we don't get L. The Z is over 18 months old now and may be nearly 2 years old when L officially releases.

Personally, I would definitely buy another Sony flagship, even though they do pump them out a little fast for my liking. :)

The 1st series of the Xperia Z smartphones were the devices that received the most updates from Sony

From 4.1.2 > 4.2.2 > 4.3 > 4.4.2 & now 4.4.4 ( count as minor update )

They had received a 3 huge updates

So I wouldn't expect Sony to release the Android L for these devices as they were already 18 months old

Btw I will get a Z3 later

Android L update

Based on my observations, I think XZ will get android L update...Compare the details in the following picture and u'll see the difference.
Whenever sony decide to stop the software update, under the software update page of that product they mention it as latest and final version..and when they are going to provide some more updates the mention it as only latest update n not final update....So i think there is huge possibility that XZ will get L update...:cowboy:

They only make that change on the update page when the decision to announce that the product is EOL for updates is made. They only recently announced the SP wouldn't get KitKat after months of "investigation".

The only chance for Z & ZL is the fact that the nexus 4 will probably get android L (also Snapdragon 4 Pro).
But then again Sony might decide to just end support after 18 months.

I'm not expecting them to update Z series to L, but it would be chance my view from "good support" to "excellent support".
Though I'd rather have a super stable 4.4.4 than a buggy 5.0 release.

Once my ZL hits 2+ years (may 2015) I will look at Z4 compact with 805 soc and Android L :).

Personally i can't agree.

The Z was updated always to latest, but:
The last fully usable firmware was the latest 4.2.2.

Everything past was buggy or unstable.
KitKat is now a year old but we still have no daily usable firmware, still annoying lags everywhere.

I do like Sony and use it since 4 years, but the Z's software and support is not on par with other comparable devices.

My experience differs. I have none of the lag or other problems reported by others around here, neither in 4.4.2 or 4.4.4. I mean, let's be honest here, none of the software they've provided for the Z is anywhere close to what would be classed as unusable, even the first 4.2.2 rom they provided that was indeed laggy yet still functional.

My expectations may be lower than others though, as I had an LG Optimus 2X before my Z and the stock rom on that was the very definition of "P.O.S"! :D

This is in fact the only Android device I've owned where I've stayed with the stock rom for this long.

Anyway, show me an Android device, and I'll find you a forum where people are complaining about the manufacturer for one reason or another! It's the nature of advanced users that frequent Internet forums to never be happy with their electronic stuff! :D

Haha yeah lg 2x was a serious letdown.

I may have higher expectations, but see HTC offers 4.1 to L for their old One.

Its the flagship policy that ruins Sony phones.
They should deserve more, but can't get a "comparable" software support as long as they release 2 flagships a year.

Yeah, I said earlier that they release flagships too fast. Every 6 months is too soon and each new one isn't really a huge upgrade from the last.

Anyway, I'm looking at keeping the Z for another 6 months then will look at what's around. Z4/Z4C maybe, or Nexus if there's a new one released.

The Z is an awesome and beautiful phone, but knowing Sony will take months to do a stable release i'll sell my Z with a heavy heart and return to a Nexus.

Not true.
4.3 was 100% stable and fast.
Only 4.4.2 was buggy.

As much as i'd like to agree, there were several bugs.
Plus it became laggy after some time of usage, the same is happening on other xperias too.

But lets stop OT now.

Well, not for me.
I was on 4.3 for MONTHS because 4.4.2 didn't come for my cust.nr until ~august 2014 (and didn't care for 4.4.2).
Never any real lags either and didn't reboot for periods of weeks.

4.4.4 is a pretty stable release. Battery life is good too. As it is, the Android L update is slated to arrive on Sony Phones in Feb 2015. By that time, the Z will be 2 years old. Too old in this universe.

We should get custom rom ports though. Android L does look promising. Especially since Sony will dish out a new UI
