You can choose another launcher (microsoft, nova etc) and use adb or other methods to install it on your device to see if it works. If it works it may be due to missing libraries or incompatible libraries or the app detecting your bootloader unlocked or another reason. If it does not work then It suggest you try another image or if you really are keen on this GSI then you can take a look at the libraries.

ms, nova both works, but swip up to multi task doesn't works.

Comment on second question - space and simplicity. A vanilla GSI version of Lineage takes up very little space on the 128 GB version. Leaving more room for the apps and files I need.

Actually maybe not so...
I view custom roms as an extension of life for device that already are out of support...
Google and laws regulates the manufacturers and bloatware is not that bad of a problem since I can simply freeze the apps ( see my 12s thread for more info )
The official roms always are more stable for most brands and also you do not want to risk your warranty.
Also when you flash a GSI you are flashing it to the system partiton which means you do not get more storage space out of your phone...

- Hide tablet gesture bar (Long press to hide, Android 12.1+)
- Fix tablet taskbar height (PixelExperience 12.1+)
- Fix launcher crash (PixelExperience 13)

works very well, but pixel launcher drain too much barrery.
Since PE13 gesture bar no need to fix like PE12.

fixed the pixel launcher crash on pe13p 02.18 bulid, but unfortunatelly pixel launcher still coast too much barttery.
