This worked on a gingerbread rom, and also a froyo!

Google Maps v5.0.0

1. Run google maps
2. Insert USB cable connected to official AC wall socket, or official car charger (needs to be detected as AC)
3. Pull out battery. Voila!

Well interestingly one day I was using Google Maps in the car... connected into the official HTC Car charger via USB (phone detects this as 'AC' power)

The phone was getting hot so I took the back cover off to see how hot the battery was and it fell out.

Interestingly, the phone continued to work fine, with normal functionality, and no battery.

Don't work for me...but I have seen my phone do this in the past, think it was in fastboot at the time.

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

but removing battery while plugged in will increase on board voltage ........

theoretically speaking one can end up in fried motherboard or damaged charging circuit ,,,,,,,,
