i need to run RUU. my wife broke the screen on her s7 edge & it's $350 for a new screen. i fixed my one m8 for her, but the charging port crapped out. i know i need to run RUU on the 4G LTE or it won't accept Sprint's provisioning with the new number once i activate it.
Well if you don't answer my questions I can't help you...
You run the RUU.exe from a PC, and you can get the rom.zip files using the procedure I previously stated. That will allow you to update the device.

Link me to the file that you're trying to use. You're doing something wrong, and/or not accurately describing the problem. Some screenshots might help, if you have any, of what you're seeing when you run the RUU.

Just chiming in....why the RUU specifically? To my knowledge, PJ75IMG.ZIP is equivalent to the RUU. I've done it TONS of times...for fun. I've switched constantly from the old partition to the new partition. To.my knowledge, it's the same.

I'm trying to use the offical RUU from HTC's page. version 3.17.651.9. I came to try your linked RUU but the 2nd link is dead, the first downloads a file that's 826KB rather than MB. (never seen that before.. it's obviously not an RUU, though. i know that's not your fault, just letting you know)

attached pic of error im getting when i run the ruu.

The RUU link you want is the one from "NOTE 2" in the OP.

Based on your screenshot, the RUU Wizard opens fine. As soon as that screen pops up is when you do the procedure I describe in the post you initially linked. Which is why it doesn't matter of your computer detects the device at all. You don't need to click through it.

the ruu begins to work..on screen it says "rebooting to bootloader" then "waiting for bootloader". the phone then sits on a black HTC screen. after about 2 minutes i get this ruu error. id gladly flash the IMG files if I had them.

Use the SD card zip method from the post you linked...I've suggested that several times.

i can't find the IMG files, Captain. I went to your DevHost page, but i can't get either of the IMG files to download. They're both linking to some nasty malware. !! i've downloaded stuff you've posted for years now so i know that's not your doing. i tried looking in my %temp% folder as well, but the IMG files are not there. man, i really appreciate your help. thanks again

What IMG files? When you start the RUU, the files you're looking for in the %TEMP% folder are named rom*.zip. That's what the linked instructions say to do. I'm not sure what it is you're doing (but it's obviously not that).

EDIT: The files are in subfolders, not just in the folder itself. Just sort the folder in reverse order by date to find the most recent folders, and in one of them should be the rom zips. You rename the 01 zip first and flash that one, then take out the card, rename the 02 the same way, and flash that one. Then you're done.

i have the 2 zip files now. can they be flashed in twrp? or do i have to rename the first one, boot to bootloader where it will auto-flash, take it out, transfer #2 to the card, reboot to bootloader & let it auto-flash? i apologize for the confusion, man. it has been a really crazy day. i'm focused now though...

Mr. Captain,

Thank you again for your help. Everything is running properly now, & that certainly wouldn't be the case had you not helped. I will say again, you are a gentleman & a scholar, Sir.

Take care
Don't you know? What the Captain says is gospel! He's a very knowledgeable guy! You have no idea...
