Two questions:
1. Do I have to be on the new firmware to run the rom based on the new RUU?
2. Will flashing the firmware wipe the device?

I just don't remember if it wipes everything and if I should make a backup. 14 hour workday totally fried my brain! :crying:

1. No
2. If you are S-ON you will have to re-lock your bootloader to flash the firmware then unlock afterwards which will wipe your device.

I tried flashing the modified fw and I get a FAILED. I'm S-OFF. Tried flashing 3 times.

C:\Users\Eddie\Downloads>Fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
target reported max download size of 1526722560 bytes
sending 'zip' (21363 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.279s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) zip header checking...
(bootloader) shift signature_size for header checking...
FAILED (remote: 32 header error)
finished. total time: 2.476s

Make sure it's firmware.zip and not firmware.zip.zip
Windows hides extentions

I unhide extensions. Its definitely firmware.zip. Is there a difference between the modified and unmodified? I'm gonna redownload. Maybe its a bad download.
I just flashed the modified firmware and it flashed the first time.
The Full unmodified firmware will update everything including hboot,boot.img,recovery (some folks don't like to update their hboot)

Yeah I wouldn't want it to update hboot. I'm setting everything up on the new rom and will try the firmware flash again. Maybe my computer needs a reboot or something. (I hate Windows 8.1)

EDIT: It flashed! It was a bad download. Thanks for all the help!

I didn't think the drivers worked on Win 8.1. Do you have hboot 1.55?

my first htc phone.

I have s-off and dont know exactly what to do to update it so i just have a question.

If i use the unmodified firmware would it remove my s-off or will it stay and everything just updates or should i just do the modified firmware and dont worry about the latest hboot?

my hboot says 1.44

thanks in advance.

You can use either and S-OFF will remain, and it's up to you whether you want to update your hboot I personaly don't like doing it unless absolutely neccassary

Rom = OS
Firmware = radios and such

As for the firmware erasing your phone,no it won't
The rom will wipe your phone but just the normal stuff same stuff that gets wiped on Sammy phones

So i need to flash both and if the full firmware doesn't have hboot, boot, recovery, what does it have other then the radio?
