After flashing the developers edition i decided to go back to stock sense 5.01,
Changed the CID to HTC__J15
flashed the stock ruu 4.16.10.
Wiped Data in recovery

Now During setup I got a message in red telling me that as this is a developers unit, Tell HTC is always on.

How can I fully go back to stock sense?

hello, worked fine for me on my european htc one M8 and the 5.0 RUU
and runs very smooth for now
just one question how do i do a permroot again now
tryed with the One_M8_All-In-One_Kit_v2.0 but it don't work anymore

i have 3.19Hboot and the latest TWRP recovery
have Super CID and Soff

is it just flash a 3.16Hboot?

1 Download superSU put it on root of sd card
2 Boot into bootloader wipe cache/dalvik
3 Flash custom recovery through adb
4 Reboot bootloader then boot to custom recovery make a backup /nandriod
5 reboot device fully
6 reboot into recovery flash superSU
7 reboot and use an app to make sure you have root
8 optional - make another back of rooted rom

Hope that helps

So converted to the dev edition using the RUU.zip that ends with "decrypted.zip" but my phone was not getting the update. I just tried to use the RUU.exe posted above on windows 10 but it fails every time with a 155 error. Does anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks...

Making it harder than it needs to be, the Marshmallow RUU was linked in the post right above yours.

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

Actually I stated that I tried that ruu and it fails every time with a 155 error. I have since had the phone update to 4.17.1540.9 but it won't update to MM from there.

I'll probably re-download the MM ruu.exe and try again if the phone doesn't update on its own.

I'm thinking of returning to the Developer Edition with the MM update, but I've been reading a lot about the difficulties with root (in general, not just rooting). Specifically, the note from chainfire about how the root partition isn't always what it seems due to some new file system weirdness.

Has anyone tried the systemless root mods with the MM Sense RUU, and if so, can you still do all the normal "root" activities (like modify the HOSTS file, remove bloat, etc.?)

EDIT: Okay, it works. I installed the systemless root boot image and beta SU linked from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/rom-stock-unlocked-developer-sense-7-t3262894

I would like to retain OTA updates, so I have only installed AdAway, BusyBox (in /su/bin), Titanium Backup, and Android Firewall (AFWALL+). So far, so good - everything seems to be working.

Pretty sure AdAway is going to cause problems, but it should be able to restore the original HOSTS file. The others I'm not sure about yet - however, all of my usual root activities are working.

Ah, yes so you did. You mention 3 different RUU methods, and mostly without specific files names or version numbers, so it was confusing.

I don't see any reason why the 6.12.1540 RUU would be failing. If the MD5 checks out, it might not be playing well with Win10.

Yeah sorry, I was bit frazzled when I typed that. I think it must be windows 10 because I verified the md5 and tried it again but it still won't work. Luckily it doesn't get very far before it craps out.

I did find this...

I'm on Windows 7, and I'm getting the same error 155 as well. I did check, and my CID/MID are correct. (in the case, BS_US002 / 0P6B13000) I also used the last RUU to go back to Lollipop, which worked fine, so everything is bone stock on the device. The bootloader is unlocked, but is also S-off, so that shouldn't be a factor.

EDIT: Updating the firmware manually in fastboot did the trick. Not sure why, since the RUU should do it for you, but that got it going.

Hello community, today I want to share something that was a little bit hard to spot. It's the Brightstar US bloatware-free Developer Edition RUU in case you want to convert your AT&T, GPE or any GSM device to Developer Edition.

If you are on Sense already just change your CID to 11111111, BS_US001 or BS_US002, your MID to 0P6B12000 if necessary and run the RUU from your pc.

If are on GPE you need to follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523 but instead of installing a Custom Rom or a backup (final step) just run the RUU in fastboot mode.

    Mega Link to 1.54.1540.10

I tested it on my unlocked BS_US001 that was converted to GPE(GOOGL001) and it worked just fine, my model id is 06PB12000.

    Steps:

    1. Change the CID to 11111111 and MID to 06PB12000.
    2. Flash the RUU zip to convert the GPE to Sense ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733523 ) (Do this only if you come from GPE).
    3. Perform a Factory Reset with the stock recovery (Do this only if you come from GPE).
    4. Run the RUU from fastboot or Android itself if you are on Sense already and Voila! HTC One 8 Developer Edition with a super fast boot up!
    5. Go back to bootloader and change the CID to BS_US002.
    6. Restart the phone and install all the updates.

*NOTE: Phone does not need to be S-OFF or Bootloader Unlocked for the RUU to run correctly (But you need to be S-OFF to change CID / MID).
    Profit!

Edit: Here's the newest RUU thanks to @Isotopes :

    HTC's repo 3.28.1540.5

does anyone have the new ruu from 3.28.1540.5

EDIT: Found now the direct link to htc server -> RUU 3.28.1540.5 :victory:

Is there any zip version of 3.28.1540.5? (or any newer version)
The link on the first message does not work.

I'm on Mac, so I can't use the exe version.

you can use this if your s-off >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001612734

    and this one for S-on >> https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001611404

Will somebody verify that this works for Verizon? I'll test but I need to be assured that it won't brick my phone

---------- Post added at 08:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 PM ----------

I haven't been able to get this RUU to work. The RUU opens up and goes through preparing setup but then just dissappears after agreeing to the terms and conditions

I tested it on the unlocked BS_US001 that I converted to GPE(GOOGL001) and it worked perfect, my model id is 06PB12000.

    1. I changed the CID to 11111111
    2. Flashed the RUU zip to convert the GPE to Sense (Following the thread I provided in OP)
    3. Performed a Factory Reset with the stock recovery.
    4. Installed TWRP and performed and Full Wipe.
    5. Restored a Sense Backup.
    6. Sense booted up fine but taking too long every time I restarted my phone (Not a very good restore huh!).
    7. Relocked the bootloader
    8. Ran the RUU and Voila! HTC One 8 Developer Edition with a super fast boot up!
    9. Went back to bootloader and changed the CID to BS_US002.
    10. Restarted the phone and installed all the updates, now I'm at version 2.22.1540.4

@kgbkny who has an AT&T version was able to convert it with no problems.

Two things come up to my mind 1. You may need to change the model ID of your phone or 2. You may need to run the RUU as administrator.

    Good luck!
