Ah that might be the problem. Have to have root to flash a recovery. After that, you'll be gtg

This won't touch your s-off and it should not brick your phone as long as you have the same "Sprint" variant. Just follow the op instructions and don't forget to lock your bootloader first.

Oh okay thank you. Also, why is it that flashing an RUU doesnt change the S-OFF state? The reason I ask is because if it is flashing the HBOOT then wouldn't that reverse the state of HBOOT? Im just curious. Oh and really stupid question, but do I need to flash the stock recovery first? or does the RUU flash the stock automatically?

Just relock OEM like stated on OP them run the ruu. I was Dev unlock and followed the instructions- made it stock. So had to flash twrp recovery to re-root and be able to install custom ROM. Don't know about it not touching the s-off/on, I was s-on, and running this ruu did give me the 1.55 hboot. Good thing tho there is a way to s-off for that now.

I never did set s-off on my One but am rooted. So that means i'm currently S-ON :D I'm planning on running the RUU to get back to stock. Shouldn't be a problem correct? Just oem lock, and fastboot flash ruu.zip, and i'm back to stock.. I just want to confirm, because most are worried about losing s-off, and thats not an issue for me.

Another thought. Could the fact that i flashed Koush's KitKat CM11 rom cause any issues?

But i would like to get rid of 'tampered' and re-locked in fastboot probably. I plan to return to sprint because of, bad low light camera, AND blow ear piece speaker.

I tried this full operation thru fastboot, it failed. Now i'm trying thru the ARUWizard.exe 'sending' the rom now.

UPDATE:
*************Running the wizard worked as it was intended.

1. fastboot oem lock
2. run ARUWizard.exe
3. ????????
4. PROFIT!!!

Perfect timing on this...my wife's gs3 just sh¡T the bed, and the iPhone 4s I gave her drove her mad...so she gets my One while I use the iPhone. But only until her upgrade in a few months.

Is rooting this painless?
