So it should not take 20mins, but how long should it take? I have been stuck at "preforming pre-update" for about 10mins now.
Should only take a minute or two. You're the second person that reported this, but I (and all the testers) never ran into this. I'll enable a debug/verbose mode so you can see what's going on. I have it set to hide all of it cause it scrolls a ton of useless information.

For now, try killing the program and restart it. Also, try right-clicking and running as Admin.

Thanks I got it to work, I just had to keep restarting the program and phone until it worked. Now that I have my new phone and am on hboot 2.09 will this tool root it?

Do the unlock, flash recovery, boot into recovery, hit reboot system, it will complain about root, tell I to fix it and you have stock rooted if that's what you want.

So... my device hung at the RUU flash for forever and I read to restart the program. Restarting the program did nothing and my device sat at the green loading bar with the HTC symbol above it. Not thinking... I restarted the phone and thought to myself... OOPS! Now I can't do a damn thing and it sits at a black HTC screen with caution marks at all of the corners... I'm completely screwed now right? Or is there still something I can do other than smash the phone and spend $150 to asurion?

To deep for me, but if you send viperboy, bigdaddy, or captain throwback a message, I'm sure one of them can help, but they are working on the sense 5 port right now so you may have to wait a bit... You're phone is probably fine though..

It probably is fine but I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to even do a Google search on how to fix my issue. I'm at such a loss right now. When I had this problem on my EVO 3D it would at least let me get into fastboot. Thanks anyway though.

My problem is that I get "Starting RUU mode . . . " and my phone just reboots to the bootloader and sits there. Any suggestions?

Do you see your phone in the device manager? Did you install the drivers for it?

My phone shows up on the computer, everything seems to be fine, and again it was working fine the last time I used it on the same computer.

My problem was that I was using a USB 3.0 port. Now that I'm on a 2.0 port I'm still stuck on the pre-update . . . It just hangs forever.

Hi

Thanks for the ViperRUU file. This was very helpful.

I just have one question or problem with it and I would really appreciate if any one helps me.

I used ViperRUU to go to complete stock. But I also need S-ON.

I ran the RUU process and then booted to Android, started the program again and trying to get S-On (Option 4).

But after I say, Yes, It gets stuck at *Waiting for device* and nothing happens.

Ran RUU, selected option 4, selected y and then it stays at <waiting for device>.

Did I do missed anything??

Thank You for the help.

You guys rock. keep up the great work.:)

This is driving me crazy. This program worked great! Then I re s-off and root using dirtyracun and now the same program with no changes on the same computer will not pick up the phone. It keeps saying it cannot find the phone.!! It cant be missing the drivers because it worked the day before!!!

So I really need to get this to work.. Do I need to have USB debuging on or off? I have tried it both ways but knowing would save me some time. Should I have a cretin rom loaded? ANY HELP PLEASE!

So I changed computers, Loaded the drivers and the program finally picks up the phone!!! But now I have another problem. When I try to run the RUU the phone reboots like it should but that as far as it goes. The computer once the phone is in fastboot does not recognize the phone.. the device changes to a "android 1.0" device with a emasculation mark on it? Do I need a different driver for the phone in fastboot? Is so where can i find it?

EDIT!!

So i figured out the the drivers online only work for the phone when it is booted to android. When the phone is in fastboot the drivers don't work. So I had to install the sync manager drivers from HTC's website. Thous drives don't work when the phone is in android but do work when the phone is in fast boot (yea it makes no since to me either). You cant have both drivers installed at the same time ( or at least I could not figure it out) So I did the "bypass" text file to skip the pre checks and used the fastboot drivers with HTC sync.. It worked just fine!

Viperboy do you still have the stock 3.16 rui? It'd make it easier to unroot for a person with S-on with that then anything else. If you do message me I need it.

Even if I did, I wouldn't distribute it because HTC tracks these things now...

So sprint FINALLY just gave me a new phone. So now I need to root ans s-off. Will this software work on a hboot-2.09? Or is the only way to dirtyracum?

You need to use HTC Dev to unlock your bootloader and install a custom recovery. You can then use Dirty Racun/Baby Racun to gain S-off. No need to use Viperboy's RUU here-it's only for folks looking to restore their phone to completely stock condition.
