One problem solved....disabled 'update notification' problem using condi's AiO, S.onyTablet.S__ALLinONE__v5.3 tool. Not sure what it did exactly but it did the trick. I searched for an appropriate app or service on the tablet and couldn't find anything so I just used the tool. This may be simple problem for more experienced user, but for me I couldn't figure it out on my own...just glad it worked.

Another thanks......

Well, I spent some time trying to figure out how to get the preinstalled vendor apps that came stock on my xperia tablet s back....and no luck. I read this thread about 100 times and found about half dozen or so folks with the same problem, but all on various devices and only a couple on the xperia tablet s, and not totally sure they have the US model SGPT123US/S like mine or not.

I tried to use my titanium back ups for a couple of apps (Walkman was one of them) and no luck didnt work. At least with the backup I can see exactly what apps are missing.

I searched every folder on the tablet and the .apk's can be found in several different places on the internal sdcard and not sure which are relevant or not?

I read a couple of folks did a wipe/reset of the tablet and then everything came back....I assume that's the pick in settings 'Backup & reset' and then 'Factory data reset'. I would try that but not sure if I would lose Root??? Anyone know???

One other thing I've noticed today since I've used the Flasher tool is every time I restart the tablet as it's just finishing the boot animation (purple-blue wave thingy) a brown dialog box appears that's titled 'Android is Upgrading...' and inside has a dynamic circle and reads 'Starting Applications'. I dont know if that is something new since Flashing with the tool to R6B or it's always done that.

One thing more I remember is at end of Flashing was the choice to install hidden.zip which I did, yes. It happened at a blink of an eye and then my tablet basically rebooted itself (even though the Flash tool said to reboot) and then got stuck at that same brown dialog box which I aborted after about an hour thinking it was hosed.....did I hose something at that point or was it really hosed?

Thanks again...I apologize for the ramble.

"First root using AiO"
should I use this newest version 5.3.7 to root? and should I set the screen timeout to maximum(30min)before rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515720

Correct use latest version.

"Change region using AiO"
I wanna download & install the Chinese version sony reader, should I change to China or Hongkong or Singapore(if there do exist the options)?
Can I change the region repeatedly to install different softwares?

Should not matter, there are only 4 regions for Tablet P in AiO region changer.

"Install rescue backdoor using AiO"
after rooting and region change, then reopen Aio-- choose tweak&mods -- Install rescue backdoor, is this right?

Yes

"Update to ICS R1a, reroot, install back-door"
well, questions here,
how can I update to ICS R1a? still use Aio --- custom rom and flashing --- flash signed zip(auto/ manual) ?
I checked out your thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687429
found the only ICS R1a for Tablet P is under UK, then should I change the region to UK before this Update?
Choose the "ICS" for your region NOT R5a. R1a was a typo.... select ICS but not Release5a. Install through recovery see my FAQ. Then re-root using AiO and backdoor again.

"Then you can safely use flasher but make sure you REPLACE the recovery (with flasher)"
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/1981/flasherv25.png
Just select 1b , right?
but what is the" recovery" and how to replace it?

It will ask during the flasher process.

"ps: my tablet p is sim locked to At&t, NOT activated. Will this affect the rooting?
This will probably mean you CAN NOT root, but it won't hurt to try.

Stifilz
I got it rooted! Now I'm in 3.2.1 rooted. Many Thx:good:
but there's no any regions of Chinese to change:(

still a question, I don't know if I should choose these regions without 3G, mine tab P is att 3G? And can I upgrade to 3G version rom in future if I change to a region without 3G (jp or us)?

Well that stinks. Thanks for the reply though. I tried to change region with 3.2, but of course its too late now since everything you do requires root and of course I cant root anymore. So I am pleading with any US 3G tab P owners that can upload a 3.2.1 Honeycomb firmware. Not sure if there are any reading this thread, but its worth a shot. Here is the error I get when I try to root the older 3.2
your scrn shot is familiar to mine:p
did you disable the sony tab P in the windows device manager, or just take out the SD card from your tab before rooting? if not, just try

OK- Another update....

I didnt get any replies on what to do abut the vendor apps missing after using this Flasher tool on my Xperia Tablet S, SGPT123US/S. So I went and did the 'Factory Data Reset' from the Settings menu. I read here and elsewhere that was the method but wasn't 100% convinced I wouldn't lose root.

It worked....almost!

Besides losing everything I had personally done to the tablet, besides root and R6B update, all vendor apps, desktop, and probably anything Sony originally shipped with the tablet was restored and seems to be working properly......

All except for the 'Walkman' App. I think by me trying to restore the Walkman app from my Titanium backup I hosed it up real good. Walkman would have probably worked if I would have just did the Factory Data Reset after I used the Flasher tool. Maybe I missed that in the instructions? Damn

So, root is still in place, release6b, tablet restored to original state and all user stuff gone (luckily I have backups), all vendor apps restored and seem to be working, Walkman App broken!!!!

Still need help.....Thanks for any I get.

FIXED!!!! Not exactly sure exactly why it worked because I'm pretty sure I did this before....and even before I did a Factory Reset??

Well, I snooped around and after comparing ro.sony.build.id numbers I tried to reinstall the Walkman App from the vendor1 folder, only because it looked like the id numbers matched up, and that didnt work. So I tried to install it from the vendor0 folder and lo and behold it now works and has survived a shut down and restart so I think I'm good to go.....

As for why the vendor0 over the vendor1 folder location, I sure dont know, as that would be an answer someone above my pay grade would maybe know.

I think if anyone has missing apps after using Flasher tool, go to the vendor0 folder and install them from that location. If that doesn't work do a factory reset and dont worry because you dont lose root.

I think in my case I hosed things up by trying to restore using titanium backup....

Anyway, problem solved....thanks for all your help.

EDIT--20130402

In my case the walkman app still kept crashing and I kept reinstalling from vendor0 to fix it so obviously there is something more wrong than simply installing from that folder. So since I don't know that much about the file structure of this tablet and android I had a lot of catching up. First, I found that I had two different walkman apps installed or at least it appeared that way in dalvik cache so I deleted those two files and rebooted but walkman still crashed. So being a beginner I looked at all the places the SemcMusic.apk were found and noticed I had two different versions and that looked like the reason the app kept crashing after a reboot. I read somewhere on this site that the system folder version was possibly the one hosing things up...at least it looked like the older version, so I tried to delete the app from a root file manager with no luck. I tried two different file managers that both had superuser and root permission but the file couldn't be deleted. Then I tried deleting with titanium backup, uninstall, and it worked. After a reboot I checked all file locations and the dalvik and there was now only one version in each location. I now can assume the problem is truly solved. This time for sure.

I think the problem happened when I originally used my titanium backup of the walkman app to try to restore and then when that didn't work I did a factory reset. At that point I think is when I got the two versions of the app...one in the system folder and one in the vendor folder and also one in the vendor0 and vendor1 folders but the dalvik was associated with the system and vendor and they seemed to be two different versions so I think they conflicted.

Just trying to make sure this is documented in case someone else has this problem. Also if someone has some better insite to all this please explain. Thanks...

Please note: This flasher does not work on Windows XP. Provides an error:

Missing Operand.
(set was unexpected at this time.

Got past this issue on Win 8 though. Cheers, condi! Great app! Starting the flash procedure.....Hope all goes well.

Please !! Help with my bricked Sony Tablet P.. !!

Dear sirs, I followed the procedure in order to upgrade my Sony Tablet P SGPT211US/S. My tablet was already rooted via All In One so I tried to upgrade it to ICS using Flasher option 1b downloaded from this link:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1632694&d=1357807056

After a while, my tablet's screen went black and didn't respond. Several hours later I tried unpluging and rebooting it but after doing the Sony logo all I get is thousand of pixels and nothing happens. I tried booting recovery but It always has the same behavior. Coomand "ADB devices "can detect the tablet but I don't know what to do to recover it.

Please tell me what can I do. I need it working, ICS or not I need It.

Thanks in advance. I us my tablet for my job. I really urge to fix it.

Best regards,

Dairo L.

Ok, works fine, was black screen after final step, when asked me to reboot, but hard reset fixed it. 2 apps crashed on update process, but I just wait for it.

Post reboot, a message said problem with the update, but was working fine. Root still working and seems faster for animations. Was a bit slow at first, but was just loading. Now bottom toolbar send with a different font and kinda pixelated, it's Xperia typical font.

Thank you again condi

Pd: I know, posting from my nexus 4 makes me a traitor :p
