andy,

I've missed lot of posts here.

one of my tablet s has OTA r5a installed, therefore no root or anything.

is there a way to downgrade and have a root?

thanks.
You can root using Condi's Sony.Tablet.S root tool in this thread.
EDIT: Not in this thread, the other thread. :p

First off the AiO would have been able to stop the update notices and would have been the best choice I believe.....AiO 6.2 was the latest and what I used at the time but may be updated to higher rev. no. by now.

Second I think if your tablet fails boot from Flasher tool that you are pretty much hosed. If you read back from when the Flasher was first updated for use with JB, Flasher v3.0.....around post #271 April 18, 2013 5:32pm....and read all the way up to present then you will see what I mean.

Luckily for myself, I was out of town and not able to update anyway and by the time I was going to do the update I read that the Flasher tool v3.0 had some problems and that anyone who used it had to send their tablets back to Sony. So I waited a short time and then motochopper was presented so i just did the OTA update directly from Sony then used motochopper and then used AiO to apply a few tweaks, one being to turn off update notifier.

Lastly when you read back through from the post number 271 you will see a couple of guys exchanging some lines and a reference to another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2242683 titled 'Debricking ideas for Xperia Tablet S' that may be of some help or not??? Either way, the author of that 'debricking' thread is a very intelligent person and the conversation within is a very good read, quite engaging, and quite possibly the answer you are looking for.....if not, you'll still feel smarter at the end of the thread, I did.

Good Luck
Thanks for all of the great info!!! I also heard from Cat about the AIO tool but I had already jumped the gun. :)

The Flasher didn't brick my device. I actually think it did something of what it was supposed to do. I just somehow ended up with two SU applications and they were conflicting with each other. The net effect was no root.

Anyway, I finally managed to unroot and remove SuperSU and Superuser using a combination of uninstalling, unrooting and running a couple of the clean-up routines from the AIO tool. I then rerooted with motochopper and all is once again good.

Thanks again!!

Well, let me tell you that I learned from the hard mistake, and that you "think wrong". If you don't flash hidden at the last part, you will get a broken boot. I also tried to save the recovery, but it died in the process. I should have used "1" instead and it is not by "accident" but it is a must!

I have spent 3+ hours trying to fix this mistake now!
I am glad I chose to flash hidden at the last part... And I though I messed up by choosing not to update hidden... Still, the upgrade to JB didn't work for me... I still have Android 4.0.3 (r5a released) when I go to About Tablet on Settings... At the same time, my Sony Tablet S seems to be working as before.. It's still rooted

OK - I rooted my Sony Tablet S using SonyTablet.S ALLinONE v6.5... Then I used SonyTablet.S FLASHER v3.0 to upgrade to JB and It seemed like it worked ok, but.......

Initial Device: Sony Tablet S, 4.0.3 r5a rooted, Kernel version 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1

At first junction I chose 2: Sony Tablet S, 4.0.3 R5A wifi only
Next, the Flasher ran fine and downloaded 3 files, system.zip, hidden.zip, and datapp.zip
Next, inflated, pushed, etc....
At next junction I chose 1: to install the hidden.img

After that my tablet went into an 'optimizing apps? I think and then it rebooted the tablet automatically.. After rebooting, nothing looks like has changed... No errors, no NOTHING.. No booting issues

When going to Settings under About Tablet, my system tools indicates 4.0.3 release5a but now I get notification that 5a update is available!!!... I still have the SuperUser App working properly so I believe my tablet is still rooted... Google Play Store is working fine.. However, I will verify if my tablet is still rooted... Should I use Root Checker??

So my question is... Should I just left it alone at rooting and not messed around with Flasher v3.0 since I originally had 4.0.3 r5a rooted??? At this point, I would like to know what else is to be done... I don't really want to push my luck and mess my tablet... What should I do about the notification??? It's asking me about updating but it's already updated to version 4.0.3 (released5a)... I am afraid it might messed it up if I update.

About JellyBean... Why it didn't upgrade??? Did I miss any steps??? or it's just the fact my tablet was already updated to r5a before it was rooted??? Gosh, it was easier to upgrade my HP Touchpad to Android 4.1.2!!!

Thanks in advance... Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone managed to get JB running on the original Tablet S yet? I think this version was posted as being Xperia Tab-only. My STS wouldn't take the Xperia version, anyhow. :(

Blue Angel's 1.4x ROMs already come with WMP10 installed.
If you even try to install firmware which is not for a certain device then in Sony's case you will get a possible hard brick due to a updated unsupported bootloader and unsupported hardware so you cannot use the GPU, CPU, Touch Screen, WiFi, Bluetooth or anything so I wouldn't even try unless you do true hackary and modifications to the OTA which is flashable/installable.

There is no Jelly Bean update for the Sony Tablet S and probably never will be.

You can use the S.onyTablet.S aio for togging update notification because the firmware that you installed is modified and protected with decreasing system update incremental for avoiding or recovering from soft bricks. It is the cause of notification.

Thanks for your reply... I really do.

At the same time, I wish it would have been made very clear at the beginning of the thread that the flasher only work for the Xperia Tablet S... Even when you open the Flasher program, there is an option 2 to flash Sony Tablet S... Hopefully, I didn't do any harm to my tablet even though it seems to be working just fine..

Is there any way to undo what Flasher v.30 did to firmware??? or just leave it like it is... I will greatly appreciate your response.

You said you started with 4.0.3r5a installed and ended up with 4.0.3r5a installed, and after rebooting, you had no boot issues, no errors, and nothing looked changed. From that, it sounds like your 4.0.3r5a install is healthy. Count your blessings, eh?

For the "update available" notification, use Condi's S.onyTablet.S [ALLinONE] Tool and select Tweaks and Mods, then select Toggle OTA system updates and notifications.

You can check to see if you still have root access by running Superuser, which should already intalled, or any app that requires root access.

I guess I better count my blessings!

I will use AiO to toglr OTA system updates and notifications.. Yeah, I still have Superuser installed under Apps but I will know for sure when I run app that requires root access... Will let you know..

Thanks for your help once again.

Given that my 3-year-old HTC Desire is running Jelly Bean 4.2, putting it on the (far more capable) STS ought to be quite feasible. I assume you mean "there probably never will be from Sony".

But I should have asked my question more accurately: has anyone tried, or is anyone working on porting JB (from the XTS, I guess) to the STS? I suspect the answer is no, but I'm curious!
