Is a wipe required after flashing to make the updates take?

I've tried both releases of the flasher with the same results - nothing is changed, nothing is updated. I didn't see any specific mention of needing to do a wipe, and while I'm totally willing to do a wipe, I'd rather not if I'm just going to wind up on the same version afterwards, just with a blank tablet and no apps or settings.

Did anyone whose version didn't change after the flash have any luck with a wipe?

Condi, sorry if this is a stupid question. I have a rooted UK wifi only tablet S with 4.03 r1a firmware. Am looking to update to r5a. Is my best option to use the V1.1 flasher or to use the AIO and flash R5A WiFi only! doubleFLASH ?
Using V1.1 Flasher looks most straightforward but the reason I ask is that using AIO there is WiFi only specific firmware whereas there is no mention of this in V1.1 Flasher.
Thanks for your help and really appreciate all your work on the Tablet S.

1) AiO,
2) tweaks & mods,
3) eable write permissions to SD.

post results, if it will not help - im gonna find out what is that 'detail'.

I have an aus variant with 4.03 1a. I succesfully rooted the device some time back but nothing sticks from the aio or the flasher such as write permissions to sd etc or firmware flash.

When I get home ill do a detailed screen of each menu I have tried to run and the results, I cant remember what they were was in a hurry this morning

If you want me to try something let me know. More than happy to help with my limited knowlege.:)

My problem was not enough free memory in sd... I am now in R5a and looks that everything is working good, I am testing and restoring my apps, with titanium, thank you very much.

Dear condi,
Can the flasher tool be used with Tablet P? and is it possible to select a custom.zip locally from pc to flash it to the tablet or it's only limited to the ones pre-selected?
I'm trying to find a way to bypass my recovery problem, are you still looking into my Tablet P recovery problem or not?

So I got my Tab out again, ran a full factory reset (data and internal sd card, wiped everything) then

Ran the AIO tool root process again. (not sure if it was needed but I may have done the root not using condi AOI)

Ran the 1.1 flasher

And 4.0.3 release 5a - Kernel 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1 - Build number TISU0163410

So I guess wiping and correct root is the key unless someone wants to correct me.

THANKS CONDI your a genius

I tried updating from R5 to R5A, without prior wipe. No issues, but it was displaying 4.0.3 (release5) in the "About tablet" menu.
So I thought... OK, let's do a wipe and see what happens.

Well... what happened was that I ended up with a build without a working "home" button in the UI (it's still there, but touching it doesn't do anything, regardless of the screen / app I'm in), no lockscreen, stock Launcher, Browser, Sony Reader, Select App no longer working :(
Don't care that much about the apps, I mentioned them because it looks like some in /system/app don't work, but also some from /vendor/.

On the other hand, the non-functional home button is a big issue.

Oh, yeah, init.d scripts don't seem to work, either (although AIO says init.d support is enabled); I've got a "move dalvik to /cache" script, but dalvik remains on /data.

So, I would advise against factory resets after flashing R5A with the tool, at least if you're coming from R5.

LE - when the tool flashed hidden.img, it only took about 1sec, not sure if that's the normal behaviour?

and another LE - Damn, the situation is worse than I thought... Chrome no longer goes to URLs, when I use its widget to access a bookmark. Wonder what other apps will have problems? Don't really have time to play around with the tablet now, maybe tonight.

Condi,

What kind of trouble will I get myself into if I were to modify your FLASHER tool to use the system.img, hidden.img, and vendor.zip (vendor folder zipped) files from your custom_prerooted_doubleFLASH_R5A_nbx03_001-ota-121116036.zip file instead of using the files your FLASHER tool downloads?

What I want to achieve is to have 4.0.3r5a US WiFi Only installed on my tablet instead of 4.0.3r5a Poland WiFi+3G which your tool installs. I also want to have System Utility rev 10 (r1a's recovery) installed instead of rev 36.

BTW, while I was looking at the downloaded vendor.zip, I noticed that your Windows OS added a desktop.ini file to all of subfolders in vendor.zip. These desktop.ini files were installed on my tablet in the subfolders of /datapp/vendor/vendor0 and /datapp/vendor/vendor1. I deleted them.
hi,

you cant do that, but you have to be careful... or just wait, im working on next version with correct vendor ;)

---edit
finishing v1.1...

---edit
test flashing...

---edit
perfect :D

---edit
flasher works now just great, with all oem apps such as remote controller etc.
im trying now to add next firmwares
By "next firmwares", do you mean US WiFi Only will be one of the next firmwares?

I also tried a wipe after an unsuccessful (no changes) flash, but I didn't get this result. Nor did I get success, however (as n3ub33 reported). I was still on R5, my home button and apps worked fine, though a few apps disappeared (mostly the "whatever unlimited" ones?).

I also had the tool tell me it flashed hidden.img in about a second?

Other than that, nothing seemed to happen. The tablet still tells me it's on R5, and says no OTA updates are available.

It's stuck at flashing datapp, any idea?
I think it's on r1 currently. I don't know much about it since it's my mom's tab.
