Do you notice anything unusual during the process? We're obviously in a minority of people who this doesn't work for, but I haven't been able to identify any specific factors that would cause the difference... I know if I tell it to update the recovery image, it takes about half a second and then says it's done (which maybe suggests to me that the tablet is blocking the firmware writes somehow, but the flasher tool thinks they're working?)

You're on R1A and it doesn't work, I have R5, so it's probably not the firmware version and how we got it (which I was a bit worried about)

How did you root your device? AiO, or the other root trick?
I rooted with the BinAry script here

There doesn't seem to be anything strange in my execution of the script. Everything appears to work, no suspicious behavior. Other than the stock Media Remote icon disappearing from the bottom center quick launch area, everything seems to be the same -- just stuck at "release1a"

I wonder if anything I froze with Titanium Backup may have interfered?

Last week, I reported serious issues when upgrading from R5 to R5A (missing lockscreen, non-functional home button, problems with apps).
I did try wiping and flashing again with Condi's tool, no change.

My R5 was rooted with Bin4ry's script, too. I don't use Titanium backup, so I don't think that has anything to do with it.
I did have problems with TB on phones when switching ROMs, though. Now I avoid it altogether.
Maybe the problems were caused by missing stock apps? I had removed all the Sony crap when I was on R5.

But now I think I finally solved it:
1. I let the OTA updater download the official R5A (it's saved on the /cache partition), but I DID NOT flash it when the download completed
2. meanwhile, I downloaded R1A firmware on a PC, then transferred it to the tablet
3. I renamed R1A fw to match R5A and overwrote the original file downloaded on /cache by the OTA updater
4. flashed it using the OTA updater (it looks like it didn't detect the fact that I changed the file)
5. after flashing, you get an error message ("failed to update software", or something like that) but other than that everything was fine, I was back on R1A. I also performed a wipe after flashing (from the Settings menu, not recovery)
6. rooted with AIO, installed backdoor and enabled write permissions to SD card
7. flashed R5A using Condi's tool (v 2.2), skipped the recovery image flashing, I'm already on rev .36
8. another wipe after flashing from the Settings menu

Now everything looks fine: I have all the apps (or, at least, I think I do) and they work as expected. In Settings - About tablet, the version is listed now as 4.0.3 release 5a (it used to say release 5 before).

Sooo... if you guys don't mind going through the pain of reinstalling all downloaded apps by hand, you might as well try the above.
Hope this helps!

Hi Condi,

The SugarSync link dead, the FASHER cannot download the requirement fikes :(

Could you please fix the Sugar link?

Also repost my concern

My tablet S is US wifi only I updated it to 4.0.3R5 from 3.2.1 by your AIO tool prerooted FW. Now, my tablet S is on 4.0.3R5 rooted. So, is it possible to update my table to R5A with rooted by your instruction in this thread?

And may i know what the different between R5 and R5A? Can R5 fix the wifi problem ( i cannot wifi at my home with R5, although the tablet show connected and got the IP but i could not access any website???) and google play problem ( i tried to use google play mod in AIO tool after i rooted my tablet, after that could not buy paid app in google play )
And which tool is better between this FASHER tool and the "
[FW R5A WIFI/3G] NEW! custom preROOTed newest stock nbx03 R5A with R1A's recovery!"

Sorry for my bad english...

Thanks

This is interesting - I was wondering if the Bin4ry root script may be the culprit here. I'm willing to give this a shot and see what happens...

i tried and failed
So did I - I was able to download the update and replace it as cezarL described, and the tablet goes through the update process, completes, and reboots. It does tell me "failed to update software," but in my case it's actually correct, and I'm still on R5 unable to update.

I did remove some stock apps, but I can't believe that condi's flasher is depending on Crash Bandicoot being intact to work, so unless someone can prove otherwise I don't think that's the reason for the failures.

My money is still on Bin4ry's root script for now - has anyone who rooted using it been able to successfully run condi's flasher?

I'm in the same situation as you. I used the Bin4ry's script and now stuck on r5. The process appears to go through successfully but fails to upgrade to r5a

I think I found what might be causing my attemps ended up doing nothing. Line 293:
Code:
files\adb shell "/system1/bin/su -c '/data/local/tmp/busybox dd if=/mnt/sdcard/aio_flash/system.img of=%sysblk%'" > NUL 2>&1
I use SuperSU and I think the su binary is in /xbin instead of /bin.

Everything went fine for my Xperia Tab, except all vendor apps are gone (Walkman, Movies, Album, etc.) I saw earlier in the thread someone mentioned that this had happened, but no fix was available. The apps in appdata/vendor don't work, they just fc. I've tried manually moving them to apps, but crashes just the same. Anyone else run across this recently? Also if anyone can pull the apk for any of them (especially remote) that are working, I'll give them a go.

Everything looks great so far - thanks again condi for all the work!

Absolutely required a wipe after the update (most system apps unavailable), but after that everything came up and looks good.
Same success here. Ran 2.4 script after full factory reset, everything came up clean the first time. I now have "Guest Mode" so my tablet can also be the coffee table remote for the home media system, without giving everyone access to my email :)

Thanks, Condi!

I just tried the 2.4 first time I use this but when I run the .bat file then type 2 then Enter, It crashed but there is a line that gets displayed very fast before it crashes.

Missing operand
<set was unexpected at the time.

I hope you can help me
