ok going to have to ask the noob question.

i see it says that damn bleeding kernel #10 i have is still unrootable. But....

my understanding (which is probably wrong) is that a firmware update would change the kernel? so am i missing something? or is it i cant change locale without root?

Since the zip-files created in this long process are all of equal size, are there any differences from user to user ?

I mean, does it make sense, when people upload their signed custom update zip ?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I don't think this will work (condi correct me if I'm wrong). I believe that during this whole process the tool modifies the zip file to change its region code from US to match the region code our your partcular device so that it will be accepted. So, for example, if I were to upload my signed custom update zip I believe that it would only work for people with my region code (Canada).

...I may be completely wrong.

will the ics update be flashable on a rooted non-us region of the tablet?
Are you asking whether condi's AiO tool will make the ICS update flashable on a rooted non-us region? If so then the answer is yes. I'm from Canada and using condi's tool I was able to flash ICS update.

And what else? Just root? Every time i try i just get red screen and couldnt find the right path!
Unpack all the directory from 7zip file and put it in root of disc C.
Then run .bat

Kernel version is not important any more. The exploit depends on write permissions to /log dir. Thats it. In ICS of course its also locked, and I have kernel #9, other users even lower. So version is not determinant any more.

Yes. You can change region to US, make custom prerooted, and flash it.
I've got european (polish region) tab, and got US ICS on it.

I just tried this wonder-tool for the first time since I got root with it :)
I got a US machine and live in Sweden. Got the update message yesterday, so I downloaded it and then copied it to external sd-card.

Got crazy with the AiO tool and first I got the "red light" since I didn't had the backdoor :) oh well, did that. Then when I was going to run the signed (update.zip) i couldn't find it (I knew I had copied it to external sd-card). I managed to copy it to a directory on the sd-card. Didn't work. So I moved it to root-dir, then it worked like a charm :)

So now I'm on 4.0.3 ICS. Only thing I've noticed so far is that "Android weather" doesn't seem to be working. Oh, what the h*ll. I'm on ICS :)

a million thanx Condi. The thank you button isn't big enough to express what your work means to me (us).

THANK YOU!

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd post again, try to make a tidier post and also bring information to people who might not have waded through the 400 posts to get to my little walkthrough. So:

1- Download US ICS FIRMWARE from post #1 on this thread.

2- Copy it to external SD,

2- Download, install and run v2.7 AiO (also in post #1)- goto 'Custom Rom' submenu, choose '1 - Decrypt Update' function, but !STOP! when it asks if you want to root etc. Stop, tell it no to root. You'll be taken back to the custom ROM screen. Then...

3- Copy the decrypted zip from the SD card to the _decrypted folder in the All in One folders. Either by pulling the card or whatever. This is important as I believe the existing version of AiO doesn't actually do this, even though it says its done it - I did this once I realised the export to PC wasn't working and the update fired straight through.

4- Once this is done, put the card back in and run '2 - add root etc' in the AiO custom ROM menu. Let this run, tell it yes to signing.

5- Once this has all finished, copy the custom_update_signed.zip from pc directory - '_signed' to external SD. At this point, I cleaned the SD card of all other files bar the hack recovery and the custom zip, so the best way would be to pull the card or mess about with file transfer etc.

6- Run '4 - Disable recovery signature..' function from AiO, follow the AiO tool instructions,

7- After running '_hack_recovery', which will fail (it's supposed to) choose 'custom_signed_update.zip'

8- Hold your breath or make a cup of tea, whichever suits, you should have ICS in a couple minutes!

I've been looking around for a decent upload site that will allow files larger than 200MB, but have been coming up short. About 40MB short, to be honest(!), so I'm uploading my custom zip file to Dropbox with a view to hosting it over the weekend for those of you who are really stuck.
