I currently did the whole back door thingy with my tablet, but i also updated to kernel 10 accidentally and now it is unrootable with this tool, is there gonna be a later version that is able to root it?
Yeah an earlier post asked that and he said he'd release it very soon. :) Stupid build 10 ruining it.

When new exploit/method will be available for higher kernels,
then it's not a problem to implement it in AiO tool.

Guys I need all the info, results, impressions,
every data is appreciated - to make AiO tool better and better ;)

Ive successfully changed region of my device to US.
If i will have enough time then i will update v2.0 to work with all regions.
I think it has small bug which will give 'prohibit version' error in new functions,
Except the regions which Ive listed.

I made a custom ROM (was just debloated, init.d scripts and universal build.prop)and manipulated the script to attempt to sign it, but when I tried to install, I could not get it to pass the signature verification. Keep in mind I have the dreaded kernel 10...

Yep, killing (I hope) last bugs ;) and will put 2.1 ;)
Will work with all regions :)

Oh about unrootable kernerls - dont try to 'manipulate script' to work with it. IT WILL NOT WORK.
Its for rootable devices only.

btw 130 downloads of new ver, and only few people report if its ok or not?
The more I know - the more I can do!

I would love to report something of value back to you, but until we can root kernel 10, I am at a loss...lol
I have tried every exploit out there; flood, rageagainstthecage, psnueter, gingerbreak, zergRush. But none of them work. Why does Sony have to be so stingey with their junk?lol

Yep I know how you feel ;)...
Just be patient, there has to be a way to get root on build 9+... :)
Head up!

Hello condi. I have been triying to root my Sony Tablet S again, since my sister updated it to build 10. Previously had it rooted in build 6. I had an OTA Backup of Build 6. But now i cannot root it again, since sony patched it. My OTA Signed Backup is Region 002 (signed-nbx03_002-ota-0042.002). Mexico. Anyway, is there a way that the OTA Backup could get decrypted, and intentionally sign it to downgrade the tablet to Build 6 (Maybe making an incremental on the prop.builld)?? Just a thought. But since no exploit has been found lately. I thought maybe that could be a way for me to get it back on root.

Kernel version i have is 2.6.36.3 [email protected]#1
Android version> 3.2.1 (Release2)
Compilation> THMAS0022400

Condi, first of all many thanks for this awesome tool!

I will try to be as detailed as possible in regards to the issues I am experiencing with version 2.0

I have the UK version of the Tablet S, running 3.2.1 (release2) with kernel 2.6.36.3 [email protected] #1 and BUILDNUMBER THMAS0042400 and BASEBAND R3B01.

I used the original root tool to successfully root my device -- in other words, not the version available in your device. The device was rooted successfully, and I can verify this as I can run su from adb, and also use applications that require root / su.

However, I have been having several problems with your tool. I am using version 2.0 and I realize you just updated this to 2.1 so I will give it another try, but unless issues have been resolved, I hope you can look into my problem.

I attempted several of the steps on your tool, some with success (partial or full) and some with complete failure.

Step 3 run without any problems -- the backdoor has been installed. So do Steps 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Parts in italics and red are OUTDATED.

Steps 8 and on however have many issues.

In particular, step 8 attempts to get the decrypted update.zip but I get some errors. In the end the file is pushed to my external sd card as expected and the device turns off. Once I go into recovery and try to follow the advice, the recovery update fails as expected. But then... nothing happens. The tool gets stuck with three dots ("...") waiting for some kind of input. If I manually restart the device, nothing happens and the tool keeps on waiting.

I suspect that due to the above, the tool permanently changed my region, as it never had the chance to change it back to UK.

Step 9 completely fails. It ask me for JAVA but I do have JAVA installed correctly.. yet nothing happens. Step 10 fails and I did not even try Step 11 for obvious reasons.

UPDATE: I can confirm I have solved the JAVA issue, but not the main source of my troubles. Steps 8 and 9 proceed normally, but after signing the update with the keys from Step 10 and trying Step 11 I still get an error:

"Prohibit update as a result of checking version or base sku"

Is this supposed to be correct procedure? If it is, then is this tool designed to not work or am I missing something?

Could you hopefully find any information about this to help me out? Please note that the details I gave you are after I tried these procedures so your tool may have altered some details if it is supposed to do so.

Also notice that I tried to root again using Step 1 but it failed (as expected?) since I have root already. I am reluctant to try to unroot and try again, as it may cause further issues.

I am also reluctant to reset the device or re-install update from scratch, because I am worried about the latest kernel update that blocks root, or of any potential boot loop (since my device is not yet fool-proof!)

I hope this post makes sense to you. I am an advanced user in general, but I lack adequate expertise and experience with Android development and ADB -- but I can follow instructions very well :) I have a BSc degree in Computing btw, although I am not practising it.

I am using 2.1 and the script runs fine but towards the end I can see lots of errors based on a read only file system. Cant load su, unable to chmod, etc. At the end however I get exploit complete but do not have root.

I am on build5#1.

Any ideas???

Is there a way of installing a US ROM on my UK Tablet S as of yet? I am thinking of using the back-door to go to an older US ROM, hopefully the first release of 3.2 and then with all kernel exploits still available, re-run the tool you've provided with hopefully better results..?

PS: I do get repeated failed chmod errors. Any help will be hugely appreciated!

US 16GB wifi version, build 5#1 THMAS0012400. Finally took the plunge and rooted with your 2.1 and it worked FLAWLESSLY. Many thanks man, excellent job on the AIO tool!

Great info, thanks for posting!

Yesterday I've added ToDo in first post:
Code:
[SIZE="2"]* add appending of region value dynamicaly to 'META-INF/com/android/detailedSKU.lst'
in custom update zip, just another check of device region...
   - causes error 'Prohibit update as a result of checking version or base sku',
   > only for users with region needed to be temp-changed.
(if error - manually can be done - edit detailedSKU.lst > add 27550199, save, sign zip).[/SIZE]
Also found possible bug in old v2.0 which causes region.zip/region.prop
'sony.sku.detailed=....' value to become empty space ;)
This could be made if user would not finish process with 'Region reverting' to original at the end.
It will be easly fixed automatically in next version.
Its a pity that I didn't have from the beginning 'other region device' than supported directly with hack ;) I would have possibility to make more test with such device, but its not a problem any more.
My target is to reach perfection as far as AiO tool is concerned :)
Sent to you PM, we will figure out if your tab has reg issue! ;)

I think you could flash 3.2 rom, but its not necessary to use new functions.

Unrootable?

 I get this error,

In your kernel version exploit vulnerability has been locked down.

is there a fix for this just yet?

Thanks in advance.
