And last week, when I was asking for help? Nothing.

Now it's too late.

Are you saying that you blame Condi for not helping you???
OMG, he's not your employee, nor servant.
You should be thankful such a brilliand mind is responding to you and sharing his knowledge with all of us.
If you had not received any help "last week", as you wrote - instead of blaming Condi - just ask him for individual help next week or month - it's up to him when he has time.

Never blame a guy who is giving you A LOT, for not giving you some more, because it's not how it works in our culture.

It is not that I'm trolling now, I could skip all this - but I'm LOOSING, when users like you are depreciating Condi's work. HOW? Because he may stop sharing his knowledge with me and the others, if he receives such negative and primitive feedback from users. I would get angry if I was giving something to someone for free and the guy would say "but last week you didn't give me anything"
For god's sake! Grow up!
It has to be fun, not blaming and all this negative atmosphere (which I made now, but I think it was necessary. Sorry, guys.)
Have fun with your tabs.
:)))

Thanks. I had done that yesterday, but just now I watched the video and saw I had to manually force the driver to install! Now it's running... ;)
See?
Can be done?
Can.
Works?
Works.

updating

It's been a while since I posted here or did anything here for that matter :)

Just wanted to Thank Condi for his great work he's doing with this wonderful AiO tool.

He spends his free spare time developing this tool ehen he could be spending quality time with his wife. THANX MAN :) I for one appreciate this very much.

Why am I writing this? Well, I got a little tired of reading these negative posts. So I thought that I'd give Condi a little cred for his great work.

He's doing it for us, for the community. Give him some cred for this.

Sebrakh; I like reading your post. Keeps me smiling. Keep it up.

I've been using the AiO since the first day. It has been working flawless. All I did was reading the FIRST post and followed the instructions. Ok I havenät been using it since we got prerooted ICS. But that's another story hehe.

A big thank you to Condi for his AiO and thank you Sebrakh for some great post and good reading.

I am truly sorry to hear that.
Have you tried another PC??
If not, please do so and if the same result you get, we'll get a bigger chance it's not a computer related problem.
or if you like, you can contact me on skype (sebarkh). We'll see into this some more.

I apologize for cross-posting, but this thread seems to get more activity:
Just got a refurb device from Sony when they had it for $240, it came yesterday.
Unfortunately it came with 3.2 build#10, and the only OTA update it shows is ICS 4.03
I've been reading around here last night and this morning and the way I understood the situation does not look good for me in terms of being able to root. Am I out of luck or there is a way to manually installed 3.2.1r2 (downloaded already) on fresh unrooted device, and the root, then put prerooted ICS on it?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks buddy.. I didn't try another pc, unfortunately I dont know anyone who lives near me with all the relevant s/w and dont really want to hijack someones pc. !

I had already successfully flashed the US ICS when that first came out.. but then flashing to UK ICS was where it all fell apart!

I ended up doing the partial brick solution but once the tab had 3.2.1 flashed to it, it still wouldnt boot up (other than recovery) and it wouldnt let me mount the system partition, I tried leaving it booting up for a while (about an hour).. but still. Couldnt adb connect to it.... I tried flashing the the stock uk ics (in desperation) but that failed (presumably on region check)..

In the end I tried flashing US ICS stock and that worked and it booted up.... which is fine. I can live without root for now.. just a bit irritated that I couldnt get back to UK firmware..

factory reset and root

Hi,

my question is probably stupid and has been answered many times but I want it to be clear to me.

If I factory reset my device, will it lose "root"?

if I do factory reset while on HC, I have to root again before upgrade to pre-rooted ICS?

does it mean when I upgrade to ICS I can't do factory reset or I will lose "root" and won't be able to root again?

Thank you!

[ICS TUTORIAL! v0.6]:

ICS FIRMWARES: here
Download ICS FIRMWARE,
Copy it to external SD,
Run v4.0 AiO - goto 'Custom Rom' submenu, choose 'Decrypt Update' function,
(after it will copy decrypted update, device will reboot and again it will be copied to PC - be patient!)
Follow AiO tool instructions,
Choose YES for add root etc.,
Choose YES for sign new custom update
(JAVA required - if you dont have, then install it, and manually run 'Sign' function),
Choose YES for flashing new custom update
Wait for finish

If you are not familiar with all custom flashing stuff - then first just check
below for videos demonstrating how it goes from A to Z.

BluechipJ made a great tutorial video, just check it out HERE!
Which one should I follow? this tutorial or BluechipJ's video?
I guess bluechipJ's video is older so I should follow this tutorial?

The difference that I noticed is that at one moment in video it says to chose NO (it says it's a key thing to chose NO; it's around 07:50 min ) when it asks to insert ROOT. and in tutorial it just says chose YES.

thanks!

ICS upgrade help needed

Hi,

I tried to update prerooted ICS today and I, kind of, stuck.

I started AiO v4
started "create decrypted update.zip", after I installed "rescue backdoor"
and the procedure started.
it first said something about changing region because of no direct support..
then it did all what it does until it powered off tablet.
then I didn't enter recovery mode because I was doing something else, and when I wanted to do that, AiO already reported some error.
I entered recovery just in case but nothing happened a long time.
then I restarted AiO and tablet.

Now each time I restart the procedure it's the same.
it extract region.prop,
..
Everything is Ok
..
[*]region is OK
[*] HACK zip is already prepared, but not on SD

...

[*] DONE. Its saved in 'sdcard/_hack_recovery.zip' for future use.

then device powers off and massage about automatic _hack_recovery.zip after entering recovery shows.
I enter recovery but for a half an hour NOTHING.
It's all the same if I enter recovery or not, just nothing is happening.

And when I restart and check SD card I have these files:

_reg_changed
install.zip
downloaded update (the one I put on SD)
test

there's no _hack_recovery.zip, so I can start it on my own, like in all those video tutorials.

I even tried deleting everything except original update, but it's all the same. All other files are created in process, except _reg_changed

So,
What do I do next?
How do I finish this procedure, and how do I make sure it reverts back my region?

thank you very much for any help.

OK, having gone through this yesterday, I can confirm you are on the right way. The AIO video is a bit dated vs. the current version of the tool.
In recovery mode when it says you need to install _hack_recovery.zip in recovery mode, it actually renames the file you need to install to install.zip I mean I took it on faith a bit.
So at the point in the process when you need to flash _hack_recovery.zip, you actually need to select install.zip At that point it will start the update, then give an error, which is normal.
So basically put the d/l'ed update to SD card, put card into the device (you already had the drivers and adb since you rooted and installed 3.2.1), then run the AIO tool, select 1 to decrypt file on your card, at this point mine gave the red screen and told me to go back install rescue back door. I believe you are at this point. Or may be you already have the complete decrypted file on your hd, check the respective directory in AIO folder.
Then (as video shows) select 4, then 1 to install rescue backdoor. It should work. Then go back to menu item 3, then 1 to decrypt.
SO then it will tell you to go to recovery mode, do that and select install.zip to install. It will fail after about a minute, and so on, follow the video. Then in the end after it all has been signed with root and hacks baked in, and you have to go into the recovery mode, the tool will rename the new signed update as install.zip again, and you will select it in the recovery mode.
The process worked for me, I did have to install 64 bit java, as I have 64 bit windows, but 32 bit Firefox, so the signing program would fail.
Also if you do need to install java, you need to quit AIO, then restart it after java is installed.
Good luck.

Eventually got there!

OK - so, just in case anybody else is suffering the same issues as me, here's the process I went through which (finally) worked.

First-off, for some reason the adb drivers could not detect the tablet in Recovery mode, and it wasn't possible to reinstall them and get that working.

So - I downloaded Virtual PC, and installed a blank version of Windows XP in there. This let me install the adb drivers into the "new" virtual PC, and get to a state where adb could "see" the tablet in both debug and recovery modes. I had to hand-install the drivers in both cases -- the auto install did not find them.

The process then went smoothly - I downloaded the OTA UK version of ICS, ran the decrypt, added root, signed it, and then flashed it successfully.

So in my case the problem was with my PC, not the tablet nor AiO V4, but resolving it was a pain.

Basically, if you can't connect to the tablet via adb in BOTH debug AND recovery modes, then AiO can't work.

Even though it is fully automati procedure, when you enter recovery you need to install 'install.zip' manually then later on in the process you have to do this again.
