I've tried to flash prerooted ICS 4.0.3 r1a via S.onyTablet.S v4.1, but I've been surprised that my Tablet S fails to mount SD card. There's an error "E:failed to mount /sdcard (Read-only file system)" in the recovery mode, in addition the SD card does not recognized in the normal boot mode. I've tried this with 2 microSD cards (2 and 16 Gb) through microSD-SD adapter. I'm sure that both cards is formatted properly and operable. Also I'm sure that writability does not locked by switch at adapter. Could you guys help me please to resolve this problem?

PS I'm on prerooted ICS 4.0.3. "USB Mass Storage" support for external SD was installed and write permissions to SD was enabled via S.onyTablet.S v4.1.

Hello, so I just recently purchased the sony s tablet and I want to install a rooted version of ICS. I am kinda new to the tablet scene but am somewhat familar with rooting phones. I just needed some clarity on my plans on getting my tablet to rooted ICS.

1. Install ABD drivers
2. Root using the AiO 4.1 tool (menu 1)
3. Follow bluechipj video to install rooted ICS.

I notice that I have to install java. Can I just go to java.com or something?

Anyways, let me know if I am missing something.

I want to thank condi for his magnificent efforts.

Sadly, it has been almost a year and the bootloader has not been unlocked. I simply can't keep a product that has half the functionality of other similar products that are much cheaper. I will be selling my Tablet S and moving out into pastures greener. And I am never, ever buying a Sony tablet ever again.

V4.1 is buggy like that. Others have got past this using 4.0 or even 3.4 by disabling updates. See OP for disabling instructions.

Use v4.0 if you can. Users have had some troubles with v4.1. Look in the first post to see how to disable updates for AIO. But other than that, go for it. It is realtivly simple compared to some of the methods for rooting other devices && it is really hard to mess it UP : )

Then you are very, very, very, very lucky. LOL One of the only regions left that we can root (as Sony removed 3.2.1 from servers when 4.0.3 ICS R1A/R2A came out.

You are on 11000 version so flash this:

0035

http://www.mediafire.com/?cti11ejoxpxx4cm

This will give you 3.2 (newer than 11000) kernel 10 (don't worry about the k10 issue, not relevant with 3.2)

Then flash this:

0042 (under kernel 10 3.2.1 : ) )

http://www.4shared.com/zip/03dah__B/signed-nbx03_001-ota-0042001.html

or

http://www.4shared.com/zip/8nuDXOQZ/signed-nbx03_001-ota-0042001.html

There are the files to install:

Move to SD card (not possible without SD)
Insert SD card
Turn off tab
Hold VOL DOWN BUTTON
Turn on tab, while still holding VOL DOWN

TAHDAH recovery menu. Flash as above

NB vol up, down are up, down and use power to select, install update from SD card, choose update from zip.

Thank you stifilz! I was able to follow your instructions and root my tab. One thing to note...its holding volume UP and then power in order to get into recovery mode. I tried using the AiO 4.1 but it didn't root...i tried 4.0 but it kept going to the this webpage. So finally I tried bluetripJ's tutorial on youtube and was able to root it. Note: i installed bluechipJ's adb files so that maybe why it didn't work with the AiO.

You can still upgrade to ICS and ICS R1A by using the first post in this thread, you will also upgrade to a faster kernel (comes with ICS). The best thing we can have atm is ROOTED ICS and thats about it && I don't even have that!!!!

Don't forget to update the ADB drivers you can find them in my FAQ thread (link in signature)
